Kluivert - Dou you want him?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think signing Kluivert is newspaper talk.

The Scum claimed we had signed Davids (they insisted it was done and dusted and even claimed Rick Parry talked Benetiz into signing him), yet Davids signed for Inter Milan at the weekend.

Kluivert was a great player many years ago, but his decline in the past 24 months has been remarkable.

IMO he is a big time Charlie who would probably get you a few goals against the likes of West Brom and Southampton but would go missing in big games.

Remember the Barca game in 2001 at Anfield? It was a crucial semi final locked at 0-0 on agg, and then Kluivert inexplicably threw his hand at a corner, giving away a penalty which McAllister scored.

I think his actions that night speaks volumes of his character and Baros, Owen and Cisse are all better players than this washed up Dutchman who needs a major reality check.

He is only one step away from going the way of Mark Bosnich, Stan Collymore and Winston Bogarde IMO.

here's one of the newspaper talks:

July 12
Liverpool are the new favourites to land Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez has instructed his board to open talks with the Dutchman after being contacted by the striker's agent. The Sunday Mirror says with no transfer fee, Benitez thinks a wage offer of £60,000-a-week will represent good business. Benitez is already welcoming Djibril Cisse and, with Michael Owen and Milan Baros, the arrival of Kluivert would give him four top international strikers. Though Kluivert comes with some 'baggage', Benitez feels he can mould him into a force for Liverpool

Is the new manager as that progressive so his way of thinking is too far beyond ours?

or it has something to do with this other newspaper talk?

July 12
Real Madrid have revived their interest in Liverpool striker Michael Owen. After winning the club's presidential elections in a landside result, Florentino Perez is set to return to the negotiating table for Owen. The England striker is still to sign a new contract at Anfield and the Sunday Express says Perez is preparing a £20 million offer. With new investment now thin on the ground, Liverpool could be forced to cash in to help new manager Rafa Benitez compete in the summer market.

20mil?? way too little... Add Ronaldo

Actually the strike force is well in place for the challenge next season. :)
Do we really need kluivert, though he is a class striker, but we already have 3!

Kluivart is another Fowler, great in his youth but now looks very old for his age and is living off past glories, has done nothing for many a year.

Plus I'm not mad about somebody who has been caught dangerous driving (or maybe drink driving) after allready killing somebody from driving. It says something about the character of the man. I believe character counts.

agree with you on that. he is a spent force and he looked a distant relative of himself in euro2004 .

even on a free a bad choice and we do not need another striker as long as we hold on to baros. we will have
Cisse
Owen
Baros
Pongolle
which i think is plenty as all have good developement potential( bar owen who i think has got to about as developed as he can get.)

Kluivert would be a dreadful signing. Overpaid, surly, and not well liked by team mates.

At least he is marginally better than that shocker of a player Davids..........have you ever seen a midfielder give away possession so frequently? Full of huff and puff and no finnesse.

Would I like to sign a selfish, greedy player who would cause nothing but trouble and is past his prime, not to mention that we have 4 good strikers already.hmmm let me think........

No chance !!!!!!!! I'd be both shocked and surprised if Benitez went in for this over paid petulant and over rated prima donna. Let Bolton have him for the merchandising seeing as Rivaldo  isn't going there ???

Guys, I read somewhere Kezman was signed by Chelski for between 3.5 to 5 million and this guy can't stop scoring for PSV, just like horseface before him.

Surely he is much better now than Kluivert who is sadly past his best and perhaps we have missed on a bargain had we chased Kezman earlier and on paper, it looks like Chelski landed a bargain. Have we paid over the odds for Cisse?

Weather Kezman will be any good in England is another thing where I think Cisse will be cos he's fast, big, and strong which is something you want a striker to be.

I just don't get the transfer market these days. Chelski sign Kezman for 3.5-5 million and they they chase Drogba at £26 million. Is Dragba 6 times better than Kezman. I think not!!!!
