Good memory, a bit before my time, he can't have played much, never really read or heard much of him.

He's got a kind of a Hurricane Higgins appeal in that you never really know what you are going to get with him, and at times he looks out of place in the environment in which he finds himself. I also think that if you are looking purely from a purist, almost poetic way of watching football Aimar is capable of occasional glimpses of dazzling brilliance and perception which surpass Riquelme, although of course I'm probably wrong.

Very talented players, but not what we are looking for IMO.

They are both very talented players, and I totally agree that neither are what we are looking for. Just to clarify, I did actually state about a page earlier that while Aimar was one of my favourite players to watch, he wouldn't cut it in the English League. That was in response to another poster who suggested him as an alternative to Benayoun. Somebody else then said Riquelme was actually a better player, which may or may not be true but I kind of prefer to watch Aimar.

I guess it kind of comes back to a point I made a couple of days ago about people starting close season threads about the possibility of players signing. As long as it is in good faith and they are not a WUM, even if the proposed signing is complete and utter b0ll0cks (and most of them are thankfully otherwise we'd have a squad of 150 and even more rotation  :D ) often the topic leads to a discussion about a completely unrelated (but ultimately equally as pointless) subject. It's all innocent enough and passes the time.

Now Avi Cohen. He was a decent full-back in his day but the old memory kind of goes a bit like a DVD that the kids have had their fingers all over if I go back that far. I think he might have been a right back, and something tells me he got a long term injury which did for him. Long dark hair and a first team regular for a season or so. That all may be complete tosh, thats just how I remember him.

Complete tosh BigMick :D He was a left back or central defender ( played left back for us) Made his name scoring for and against us when we won the league against Villa. Good player, was supposed to be the Israeli Beckenbaur  (not that good :D  ) Had dark hair though.

Woah mate.. i hate israeli's more than you, but i agree with the others that we don't need to drag politics into this issue. sure we hate this specific society in our region, but football is an entirely different thing, so saying comments like that makes you look a bit extreme doesn't it?

Now back to the topic

Benayoun? not good enough for liverpool i suppose, not the quality we need.

Reds confirm bid for Israel star BenayounJun 14 2007

by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL have launched a move for talented West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

But the Reds today dismissed reports that their £1m offer has ‘enraged West Ham’ and is ‘insulting’.

“I can confirm we have made an approach for Yossi Benayoun, but the figures quoted are completely wrong,” said Reds chief executive Rick Parry. “Other than that we don’t want to say any more.”

Benayon was on the verge of signing a new £50,000 a week deal at Upton Park this week, but in the light of Liverpool’s interest has decided not to put pen to paper.

West Ham are reported to be unhappy with what they see as a bid designed to deliberately unsettle the Israeli playmaker.

If The Hammers step up their interest in Craig Bellamy, a cash plus player exchange deal could be engineered.

I personally feel Riquleme is the better player. (but he has retired from the national squad). The guys in the Zidane mould.

And even if he's not the kinda player we are looking for, hes in the standard of footballer that you change your whole formation to suit.

Its like Mascherano, we didnt actually need another center mid, but if one of that standard comes your way, you snap him up.

So did i St, but not according to all the papers (and they are always right :D )

I think he is a decent player actually and wouldnt mind if he was signed as one of them players you can bring in (when rafa rotates...sorry mick :) ) or late in a game when we need someone with a bit of creativity to change things and hopefuly unlock a tight defence.
Similar to Luis i think and if it was on the cheap and not affecting other targets definately a yes from me.
