In fairness to Kopboyou, whether or not the source is credible isn't really relavent on a discussion forum, he is merely asking the question whther or not we should re-visit our (once again unsubstansiated) earlier interest and if we did, whether Benayoun is worth 5 million.

I've noticed there are a bunch of posters at the moment jumping on anybody who comes up with a question or a rumour demanding the source, the link, the name of the informant etc etc. I would simply ask that people try not to take themselves, or the posts they are replying to, so seriously. I've been on this forum for quite a while now and I cna tell you that 99.9% of the rumours you get on here are nonsense (the only poster who regularly calls it correctly is Ciggy, if she says it's going to happen than it generally does) and also most of the time, Rafa signs some bloke who hasn't even been mentioned on here once. Ever. Voronin anyone? It is after all close season and we must be all bored/boring to be on here in the first place so lets all try and be nice to each other, we can't even have a decent argument about rotation and the like   :D

Anyway, back to Benayoun. In my opinion he wouldn't be worth 5 million pounds to us (though he probably is to West Ham if that makes sense) but he is a decent player. Exceptional ball carrier who quite often has a subtle pass at the end of his endeavor. Kind of like an extremely rich mans Darren Fletcher who is living proof that you don't have to necessarily be anything special to be part of a Championship winning squad, just so long as you are consistent and do a sound job when called upon.

Money permitting, I'd rather buy Aimar.

Agreed, its known as silly season anyway and thats mostly what we talk about, and its only a forum. But you get these people that question the source of the rumours, so how shi.te certain papers are and as you said take themselves to seriously.

If you are looking for a subtle pass, a virtuoso performaer who plays football from the Gods, Aimar is most definately the man. I think he is a sublime talent who if I'm flicking through Sky Sports and notice him playing in a game, I'll put the remote control down and watch. I remember a game where Valencia played (I think ) Barcelona away about eighteen months ago and Aimar created the away teams second with a short burst of speed with the ball, a slight bodyswerve and the most delicate and perfectly weighted little throughball you could ever wish to see. I swear it was a thing of beauty.

Pompous and posh people who have nio business at football matches but nontheless have a season ticket at Chelsea, talk about football being the working mans art. Maybe it is, and if it is Aimar is truly a modern day Picasso, a wonderful footballer. All that said, my feeling is that for him to prosper the team has to be built to accomodate his matchstick vulnerability and defensive invisibility, and that he wouldn't cut it in the rough and tumble of the Premiership.

A wonderful player though Manhattan, as subtle at the old through ball as you are yourself with the quip. While I'm at it, thanks a lot mate for making me splutter my coffee and p!ss myself laughing on numerous occasions over the last couple of years. Top man.

He shines every now and then for West Ham, but the bottom of the Premiership is a different class to the top and if we're to build a title challenging team, we need someone of higher quality.

In England you might have to pay that, but that's because the english market is too expensive. There are dozens and dozens and dozens like him in Europe, 10 times cheaper, and we apparently have staff browsing Europe for talents, so I wouldn't sign up Benayoun whatsoever.

Not that he's shíte eh? but he would be overpriced for what he can provide.

I'd agree with this, I believe we should be looking for top class talent, not mid-table talent.

As good as he can be at times, I'm of the opinion that he wouldn't be much of an improvement on Pennant.

As for Aimar, he is a very talented player, but not a right winger so I'd rule that one out.

sick of buying these type of players,Zenden,Pennant...all decent premiership players but they cost -5 million and there not good enough if we want to win the league,we need world class players if we wnt to win the league.I would take one world class 45 million pound striker than 5  average players!

Haha, Manhattan makes me laugh a lot with his sense of humour to me aswell, but credit where credit is due, you should seriously consider writting a book of football. I make the translation to Spanish, and I get the 20% of the profit. Love it how you describe football.

And yes, I agree, this time quite a lot. A great footballer that certainly could tryumph in the English League, but, maybe, not in this club. Sometimes you lot talk about a player not suiting a league. But Mascherano proves that it's more like a player not suiting a club. The same player, in the same league, under a different coach and formation, can make a massive difference. No one knows how good would have been Arteta in this club. No one knows how good would have been Morientes if he played for Everton, if you see what I mean.

Mick i have to disagree, i bothered to read the 'rules of posting etc' before i joined and surely you want comments/threads that are thought about? I'm not one for jumping on people, but when a thread asks us to consider signing a player who has just signed a new contract, i think that is poor posting, and he/she should know about it, so in future they may write a considered post.

I want threads started that can be substantiated to some degree, even have some anecdotal evidence, offer some opinion, or plain humourous so that a decent discussion is ignited.

I don't think that means anyone who questions is necessarily taking thremselves too seriously, more it keeps us all on our toes.

I think in the case of Masherano at west Ham, it was simply a case Sabes of them already having a style and tempo which they played to, and which Masherano didn't really fit. By that I mean Masherano, Alonso and similar players are really holding midfielders in the truest sense (or deep lying playmakers or whatever else people like to call them) who like to essentially control the pace of the game, and more often that not slow it down. West Ham liked to have a fairly robust tempo and rhythm to their game, with a large amount of energy which was more suited to a midfielder of the Reo-Coker or Haydn Mullins type, snapping into tackles and happy to move the ball on quickly to the ball carriers, Etherington and Benayoun.

My hunch is that deciding to leave Masherano out of the picture was probably one of the bravest moves Pardew has ever made as a manager (and I rate him highly as an English manager BTW) in that Masherano has very obvious qualities, but quite simply didn't suit the way West Ham set up. Funnily enough, in a similar way that as I explained my opinion of a couple of days ago Masherano would be a slightly better fit to partner Gerrard, I actually think Alonso would be able to adapt his game ever so slightly and be a huge success at west Ham, something which was beyond the Argentine.

As for Morientes, it wasn't the coaching which was the problem. It was the refereeing, the way people defended against him and ultimately his attitude and acceptance that it wasn't going to work. He had insufficient desire and upper body strength to play the "lead the line" role in England, and insufficient pace to adapt his game to be a different kind of striker. I don't think he would be a success over here regardless of who the coach was. On the flipside, some like Inzhagi would score freely in England as his game doesn't rely on being able to hold the ball up or win headers like Morientes. Eto would work because he has that touch more pace, but Morientes unfortunately realised long before he finally left that in his heart of hearts, it was never going to happen.

Red you're one of the best posters on here and I certainly take your thoughts on board. I just think that there's too much of "I read this article in the daily mail saying that we're interested in Trezuguet", followed by "ah that's obviously b0ll0cks, bad journalism, blah blah". Similarly, "some bloke I know who's dad goes boozing with Carras old fella says that...." is derided from the rooftops, "don't be so fecking ridiculous" etc etc.

Ultimately, there is a big difference in my opinion to genuine spammers and people just putting out some thoughts, observations or rumours on who we are going to sign. People don't after all have to read a thread if they don't wish, least of all contribute to it and there is far too much of putting people down, arguments, spats and general unnecessarily rude behaviour around here at the moment which I think it's only right to point out. I just wish sometimes that people could disagree and debate accordingly rather than tell the other fella he is taling sh!te, is an imbecile or anything else.

This may have been the wrong time to make a point, but a little like the ref who after a series of bad tackles thinks, "right, the next one's going in the book" I thought it was something which had to be said. The rule I've always gone by is don't write anything you wouldn't be prepared to say to the bloke if you were going to  be stood next to him in the pub in five minutes. One or two others on here would do well to consider that mantra and stop being so unnecessarily obnoxious all the time.

I can't disagree there Mick, especially the first sentence!

I have noticed since i have been here, (read the forum for a little while before joining), that some members reply not to the content of the post but  are more interested in the author, and reply accordingly.

Quite as few get antagonized very easily and reply with  vitriol rather than with the wit.... dish a few cards??

Anyway hope there is some real news to write about soon or i might just start another Alonso thread :D

Yes, I agree, I even offered the ref to show me a card, but he didn't

Despite I agree, I must tell you that being a mod is not easy here. You're not paid for it. It makes you read threads that you didn't plan to read, and it makes you click boring porn threads. And instead of being grateful, most users think that you're in a privileged position. Which is funny. Because you can't even take sides. It's far from being privileged.

So if they dish cards, chances are that both sides are unhappy with the result, and start asking more cards for the other side.

Just for info, they do not have an easy task. :)

As for the lack of discussion, I can make a couple of thoughts about the renewal of the contract of Alonso, a 5 years contract (did I mention it?), and a couple of thoughts about how I wish October comes to show everybody the incompatibility of Alonso and Gerrard in the middle, is a bloody myth, and I think we could have a decent discussion again.
