I think he's a better player than a lot would admit.

Had he not been injured, but instead continued his form from the past 2 seasons, there would have been a massive scramble for his signature. I think he's worth 3 times the £6m we paid for him, easily.

How many players are able to conjure something up from nothing? Obviously these are all better players, but would they be in England I wonder?:

Aimar - worth about £20m until he had a fall out with Valencia, then they let him leave on the cheap.

Ronaldinho - Lord only knows how much this fella would set you back...At least £40m.

Who else?

There's certainly no-one like him in this league.

I agree with you that he can be a special little player at times and he has abilities that he didn't appear capable of at first e.g. his heading. But worth at least £18m?, IMO I doubt he'd fetch £10m in the transfer market today, his inconsistencies and exorbitant tendancies make him IMO less attractive as a transfer target. I think under a manager like Benitez he is ideal, he knows in which games to use him and get the best out of him. I'm not so sure he could be a first team regular in a long premiership campaign - but he could certainly engineer some important moves and execute jinky link passes that help unlock stubborn defenses. Other managers may become frustrated and that is why I don't see him as anything like an £18m asset.

Well, there are some players that have a lot of future, and must learn to pass, and must learn to read matches, and must learn to have composture, and must learn a lot of things, like scoring. Ah, but they're ball winners. And then you have midfielders that make 13 goals the first season, and around 13 the second season aswell.

The reason why there's a debate about Luis is one I don't know. There are players who don't know doing many things, but people stress they do SOMETHING well, like ball winning and presence without the ball.

There are others who open up matches, score 13 goals a season, make havoc between lines, and yes, give away balls, which is something quite natural when you try last passes (LG also assists) and play between lines (see stats)

I'd know who I would sign up.

we need to keep him as he is coaching crouchy on headers and positioning in the box,

Garcia is a dream for the negative boo boy type fan, as he is an easier target than most with his ability to gift possession back with the greatness of ease

but he has the twist of genius that means he will always be remembered as a player capable of anything,

never moans , always works hard , and has been with rafa for years so is trusted to do as asked, for me great squad player

I think there will still be a place for him in the squad come next year although he could get less outings with all the new arrivals due soon. Great player but its his lack of consitincy that gets on everyones nerves.

Its that same lack of consitincey that we have shown that has cost us being out of the title race so soon this year. I like the lad and all the great goals he scores but if we have to ship him of to make way for someone who will add balance on a more regualr basis then so be it.

When he was fit we were cursing him, saying he was a player who could play at Anfield but wasn't up to it away from home, cos he kept giving the ball away and was a trickster. Now he's injured we're saying he would've won us the CL final!?

The fact that some people are hailing him as the missing link says more about the dearth of genuine attacking threat in our wide players and strikers than it does about Luis's real ability.

In Europe he can get us goals, we've seen that. But he should be kept as a squad player and no more. We've got to be looking at attacking players better than him if we're gonna challenge for the title.

Sell him while he is popular in spain we could get 10mil for him.
I don't think he will play that many games this season and if we want to see a profit then the time to sell is now i wont miss him.

lui is very important to us hes one of the best goalscoring midfielders in the world espeacially in europe and he can play on both wings and as a second striker.

in my opinion hes very underated

Somehow some "fans" find Zenden and Gonzales as scapegoats and then the rest of the team become personal favourites.
Zenden and Gonzalez are NOT the sole reason we weren't even close.
The lack of strength in the squad is what made us come up short, cause the players we have isn't good enough over a full season.

Garcia is a error prone, unreliable player who is also the most irrational and creative flair player we've got.

He is just one of many examples of squad players we have in droves. Top class title winning players are very few.
Got to be more ruthless and get rid of players if the offer is good enough or we can get better. No time for sentiments and favouritsm.

Mascherano is the perfect example of this.

I have no idea where you get the perception that Zenden and Gonzales are made scapegoats by some fans, nor do I understand how you reach the conclusion that the rest of the team become personal favourites. Most people appraise each player on their own and judge how they fit into the TEAM.

I also fail to understand how you think we have "droves" of squad players.

You judge Mascherano over a 10 game period, a period in which he has not played in a meaningful premier league game. He has shown he is a good player in some games, particularly in Europe, so has Momo to an equally high degree.

Momo has put in performances this season and last season that prove his value to the team, average players don't have Man of the Match performances against Barcelona and Chelsea, the reports linking him with a £10m+ move to some of Europe's top clubs is further evidence that he has a lot of value.
