I would have more faith that our "signings were in the bag" if I didn't keep reading how :- "Liverpool came in with a late bid only to fail".

Spanish reports claim Chelsea and Milan have both lodged offers for Sevilla ace Daniel Alves, but it is claimed Real Madrid remain favourites to clinch his signature.

Liverpool have also been linked with the attack minded full-back, but it seems they are yet to make their move.

Milan and Chelsea are understood to have made contact but the offer from the English club is bigger at €24million (£16.2million), with the Italians tabling a €20million (£13.5million) bid.

Sevilla are ready to deal for Alves and are now considering their options.

Chelsea made their move after their Spanish scout Juan Cruz Sol watched him in action against Real Zaragoza last month and he submitted another glowing report.

Real are yet to unveil their hand - but it seems that they could very well offer players in exchange including former Sevilla star Julio Baptista, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal.

Now the bidding has started for Alves, the player will need to consider his options and initial reports suggest Real Madrid is his preferred option.

Alves is perfect for Chelsea, he falls over and clutches his face a lot when no one is near.

Rafael Benitez wanted the club's new owners to splash the cash this summer in order to strengthen his team for a concerted Premiership title challenge.

But it looks like they could miss out on two of their reported top targets in Sevilla wing-back Alves and Real Zaragoza central defender Milito.

Both have been long linked with moves to Anfield, but according to reports from Europe it doesn't look like either will end up on Merseyside.

Spanish daily AS Diario claims that Real Madrid have already begun negotiations aimed at taking Alves to the Santiago Bernabeu.

He first sprang to British prominence last season when helping Sevilla take Middlesbrough apart in the UEFA Cup final.

And he was part of the Brazil side that snatched a 1-1 draw against England at Wembley on Friday night.

AS claims that Madrid sport director Predrag Mijatovic is already closing in on Alves as Los Galacticos start their summer strengthening.

Meanwhile Milito, who almost joined Real in the summer of 2003, could be bound for Italy next season.

Reports from both Italy and Spain suggest that Juventus want the Argentine ace, and have already offered 16million euros (£11million).

The reports say that if Claudio Ranieri becomes the next Juve coach he would love to land Milito, and that Juve will have to offer something like 25 million euros (£18million) to get their man.

The 26-year-old Milito has three years remaining on his Zaragoza contract, and the Italian press claims his advisers have already agreed personal terms with Juventus.

My point was about Liverpool fc being slow to sign players not Benitez. After all it was Benitez who wanted quick signings. As usual you miss the point and just show your stupidity.

Uefa staged an embarrassing climbdown in its row with Liverpool last night when Michel Platini, the president of European football’s governing body, distanced himself from a slur on the reputation of the club’s supporters by one of his colleagues.

Platini appeared to absolve Liverpool’s fans of blame for the crowd trouble at the Champions League final in Athens last month after Tom Hicks, the club’s American co-chairman, had joined Rick Parry, the chief executive, and Steven Gerrard in condemning William Gaillard, the Uefa director of communications, for blaming supporters for the poor security arrangements.

Asked whether Liverpool fans were to blame for the trouble at some of the entry gates at the Olympic Stadium before the final against AC Milan, Platini said: “No, we cannot say that. We cannot point the finger. And, no, they are not the worst behaved in Europe. The issue is not that they are English or Spanish, one club or another. It is simply about fans who travel without tickets. This is an old story. It is just that more English fans follow their clubs than those from other countries. It is not as if one set of fans are good or one set bad.”

The retraction is unlikely to halt the calls for Gaillard, whom Hicks branded “a clown”, to be dismissed, but it should at least go some way towards defusing a situation that had threatened to spiral out of control. Platini was speaking after a meeting in Brussels with Richard Caborn, the Sports Minister, who was handed a report outlining 25 serious incidents alleged to have involved Liverpool supporters over the past four years. Platini is said to have approved of Caborn’s idea for a working party to be set up by Uefa to find suitable venues for future finals after concerns were raised about the Olympic Stadium in Athens.

Gaillard’s comments have been troubling Liverpool’s supporters in recent days, but so has a lack of news regarding the early-summer signings that Rafael BenÍtez, the manager, demanded in the aftermath of defeat by Milan in Athens. Hicks moved to assure the fans yesterday that “maybe we’ll hear something in the next week” and    it emerged last night that Alessandro Mancini, the AS Roma winger, is the subject of serious discussion inside Anfield amid growing optimism that he can be lured to Merseyside.

Mancini, 27, has been a regular for Roma for the past four seasons and enhanced his reputation as one of the most skilful wingers in world football with a spectacular goal against Lyons in the last 16 of the Champions League in March. He prefers to operate on the right wing, but is also comfortable on the left-hand side. It is not yet clear whether BenÍtez hopes to sign him as well as Florent Malouda, the Lyons left winger, or instead of him.

The other serious issue for BenÍtez is attempting to secure the long-term future of the key players within his squad. Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, the vice-captain, signed new four-year contracts on Monday and an agreement is understood to be close with José Manuel Reina, the goalkeeper, but there has been a disturbing lack of progress in talks with Xabi Alonso. The Spain midfield player is known to be attracting firm interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid. If Alonso does not sign a new contract, he is likely to be offered to Barcelona as a makeweight in a deal to sign Samuel Eto’o, the Cameroon forward, who is an ambitious target.

Times

I wasn't sure were to put this but as I like Mancini and would love us to sign Eto'o thought here was as good as anywhere. :D

Sabre - with all due respect, this section is ALL ABOUT SPECULATION and how individuals react to it.

If I read a rumor, I have my views on it - some of which include my personal thoughts about a situation - e.g: why is Rafa so slow in signing targets? I have every right to express my opinion around this IN THIS SECTION OF THE FORUM, because, until the facts come out - my opinions are rumors, albeit ones I have initiated.

Could you imagine see British players trying to playing on the pitches of Brazil.  The majority would struggle badly due to lack of technique.  You see some of this South American kids and even as they dribble u can see the ball bobbling all over the place yet the close control is awesome!!

The only idiot there is here is you (who are you, anyway?), I just was making a point about how pointless it is to make a criticism based on unfounded rumours.

I really like Mancini.  That goal v Lyon is one of my favourites of all time.  The way he just bamboozled the defender was classic!!!

its not rocket science mate   :D

and who are you anyway? why should you decide what is discussed and what isnt discussed, if we didnt discuss rumours then there would be nothing to talk about and should close the forum during the summer    :no

Well I respect your opinion Simari and you certainly show respect in your answer.

My view about this thread is different, and that doesn't mean better or worse than your view. But IMHO this thread and this sectio was meant so that all the rumours concerning transfers are picked up here and so that they do not crowd the general section.

It's indeed a place for speculation and talking about uncertain signing ups. But for me it was a bit too SOON to criticise our signing up policy in the fifth day, and to say *we've lost players* when we don't even know if it's true we're interested on them.

For instance Alves. Look at him, everybody talking about him, only for Macia saying we're not interested... so if we're not interested, we cannot say somebody else has won the race for him to us, right?

Yes, and like in all the squabbles with certain members, other certain members appear sooner rather than later.

Come on, don't you have the playground rule of "one against one, let them fight?"

Seriously Peewee, I have no interest in fights, but I just won't accept someone says my posts are stupid and don't answer if I think I have a point. Rant over. Simari has explained his disagreement in a spotless manner, and it's a pleasure to discuss things that way. There's no need to say "you show your stupidity".
