Lil' luis

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Tried to find and old thread just to add this too but couldn't find one,

Anyway, quite simple....

Should we keep luis garcia?? and where does he fit into next seasons plans?

Doesn't seem to be much support for him playing on the right (based on that poll) and many people seem to want Tevez or some other random new player to play behind the main striker. There have even been suggestions that people would prefer Kuyt to play in this position next season.

So again my Question is this, what will his role be next season, does he have one?

Great squad player and one of the few flair players we have. We will know more once the signings are complete, but I still think we will have room for Garcia in the squad. Maybe he was missed more than we realised in the CL final.

I'd keep him because he has ability and is capable of scoring crucial goals. Yes he can be inconsistent but on his day he's a definite match winner.

I'd keep him, his goal tally at the first and second season, all goals coming from open play should tell his doubters they're wrong. This season was second in the goal table of the team when he was injured.

The last summer, with Pennat coming, and Gonzo and Aurelio coming, everybody said he wouldn't have a place in the squad, but as always, he ended up playing?

Why? because he has what you call flair, he's a good finisher, and he knows heading well. His movements are constant and he's a nuisance for the opposition. He can play perfectly well in the attacking mid position that Gerrard played against Milan (you call it second striker), in that 4-4-1-1.

I think he's a very good squad player, and despite he'll have lots of competition I think he'll manage to make a spot in the squad.

Anyhow, with so much competition, it wouldn't surprise me if he was sold, as I think we'd get an important sum for him.

Good player.

We missed Garcia in the CL final, and I'm confident that if he'd played, we'd have won the game. Cracking squad player. Would make it on to any team in the top four of the PL imo.

I'd keep Garcia, up to now he's been the only player in the squad with some flare and spark, yeah he gives the ball away a bit and tend to have his good games at home but he's been unlucky with injuries this season and he's worked very hard to adapt to the prem.

He deffo has a place in the squad being able to play in many different roles :)

Garcia is a good player and i think if he wasn't injured we'd be higher in the table, I don't think rafa will sell him but what transfers come through in the summer will give us an indication of if he fits in with the team plans or not.

Personally i think he's a good player and would like us to keep him

This season has certainly shown us exactly what Garcia brings to the team. Too many times we would get so far up the pitch and then run out of ideas that maybe would have led to something through Garcia's unpredictability. Most certainly he is one of the most infuriating players we've got at times but just think back to that goal against Juve. It came out of absolutely nothing, we were looking for a way through their defence and then suddenly BAM, his looping shot caught them totally unaware. He has that magical ability about him and even though he sometimes can't pass a simple 10 yard ball without giving the ball away we have been thankful for having his ability on the pitch at times when it REALLY does matter.
To get in another player with that ability is gonna cost a hell of a lot in today's market and if Rafa is wanting to fill a number of positions this summer with top quality players we may not get somebody with his versatility that can produce those moments. Another way of arguing for his case could also be that you can never have too many flair players in your squad. You may have too many on the pitch at once but having plenty in the squad ain't no bad thing in my books.

What other player has you really hating him and questioning why hes here then scores a beauty against a big team then have you loving him to bits ! Keep him I say I like the way he turns me into a hypocrite after hes played !

Well, he is a damn frustrating player who can produce moments of brilliance and then go missing or loose the ball outside your own box.
It says everything when I considering him among the best flair player we've got and then also say that this is the reason we're not challenging.
We need more players like him, but of a much higher quality.

So if we can get better and more reliable players he would become surplus to requirements. Problem is it has to class players and no more 3-6 million chance signings that we've done now for 500 years.

My guess is we won't spend big this summer either and luis will stay and we'll fall short.
But there is still hope....

As for Garcia I think it's pretty much been said already, for what he lacks in consistency he makes up for with moments of flair and brilliance. Pretty much how Rushie put it, he has an important role within the squad.

As for the quotation above, I cannot understand why there is such profound pessimism as this. I don't like the notion of spending 'big', it's player orientated, the players who are more quality tend to cost more but it really is about looking at things on a player to player basis. A manager could easily set out to spend "big" and p!ss a great deal of money against the wall if they ended up reading the press.

I just don't like that kind of pessimism, we are in a position we haven't been in for years, we have the backing from the owners, the transfer window has just opened - Leiva has alreay signed, Gerrard and Carra have signed extended contracts. If now isn't a time for optimism when is?

The guy can give me one of those faces, like when on the bog
and your trying to squeeze one out . And on the other hand, he can give me the feeling of having a magician on the field,
who, can pull off amazing goals and set ups. :buttrock

So, i would like to keep him. He brings flair into the squad and
i missed that this season.
