Latest transfer rumor

Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

the article that S@int has brought of www.abc.es is very interesting. First because it's an interview with quotes, second, because ABC is one of the most serious press there's in Spain, and it's reliable (despite right winged).

It's interesting aswell because it says at the end

"The press hasn't forwarded ANY of the 3 signing ups we already have closed"

It's also interesting the quote that says that in England there's no need to transfer tactics (speculation, etc) and how firmly he claims LFC is not interested on Alves.

It's relevant aswell his quote about Alves' prices, it seems that Liverpool is not ready to pay ridiculous amounts of money.

Alves is wishing to go to Madrid, and Madrid seems to pay a ridiculous fee. I think we can live without him.

Doh, as soon as I read in Spanish that quote of the press not foreseeing the 3 signings closed, I was carried away and stop reading. On second read I realised he was talking about Voronin, Leto and Lucas. FFS, it's normal the press doesn't foresee that, they were almost completely unknown!

Liverpool out of race to sign Alves

Jun 4 2007

By Nick Smith, Liverpool Daily Post

LIVERPOOL are set to drop out of any chase to sign Sevilla’s in - demand wing-back Daniel Alves.

Rafael Benitez pursued the player last summer, but the La Liga club’s refusal to lower their £12milion asking price eventually forced the Liverpool manager to turn his attention to securing Jermaine Pennant and Dirk Kuyt instead.

Alves’s agent last week revealed that the Brazilian was determined to leave the UEFA Cup winners at the end of the Spanish season, which is still a fortnight away from concluding.

But Liverpool’s joint chief scout Eduardo Macia has told the Spanish media that filling the right side berth Alves prowls for cub and country is not a priority for Benitez.

"We’ve dropped our interest," said Macia. "Instead of him we signed Jermaine Pennant and okay, so he’s a winger, but Alves plays very high up the pitch.

"We’ve also got Alvaro Arbeloa who can play in that position.

"In football you can never say never but at the moment we’re not interested."

I dont think the fact that the Spanish season is still in progress is down to the lack of movement so far in the market.

Current transfers from Spain:

Diego Costa (Sporting Braga) > Atlético Madrid
Clemente Rodríguez (Spartak Moscú) > Espanyol
Pablo Hernández (Valencia) > Getafe
Miguel Pallardó (Valencia) > Getafe
Mario (Recreativo de Huelva) > Getafe
Ikechukwu Uche (Recreativo de Huelva) > Getafe
Juanma (Deportivo La Coruña) > Hércules
Xavier Margairaz (FC Zúrich) > Osasuna
Mario (Ceuta) > Real Betis
Christoph Metzelder (Borussia Dortmund) > Real Madrid
Borja Valero (Real Madrid) > Real Mallorca
Gabi (Atlético Madrid) > Real Zaragoza
Cristian (Valencia Mestalla) > Salamanca
Alexis (Getafe) > Valencia
Sunny (Polideportivo Ejido) > Valencia
Roberto Ayala (Valencia) > Villarreal
Joan Capdevila (Deportivo La Coruña) > Villarreal
Mathías Vidangossy (Unión Española) > Villarreal
Martín Cáceres (Defensor Sporting) > Villarreal
Tomané (Barreirense) > Villarreal

Most of the transfers listed there are not clubs still in the title chase or close to relegation.
They are clubs thats seasons are all but over.

The players we have been linked with (true or not) are still heavily involved, and even if it is unlikely that we will get Eto'o or Villa, if they are Rafa's first targets he will go all out to get them first and not waste money elsewhere.
Obviously there have been alot of transfers already in Spain so its not inconceivable that we couldnt sign a player before there season ends, like Milito from Zaragoza, but as i said IF rafa wants Eto'o or Villa and it may take silly money, he may wait until he has done the deal before he looks at signing anyone else so he knows exactly how much he will have left.

Malouda and Simao are not taking part in the La Liga title race and no movement on these players we are apparently interested in either.

From Monday's Liverpool Echo

Meanwhile, Benitez’s chief scout, Eduardo Macia, announced to the Spanish media over the weekend that Liverpool have ended their interest in Daniel Alves, who seems to be on the verge of joining Real Madrid in a £15m deal.

Benitez would still love to sign Alves, but in the absence of any confirmation of how much is available, Liverpool are in no position to pursue such targets.

Benitez remains in close contact with club officials but while the Reds continue to be linked with stars such as Samuel Eto’o, there appears to be an ever growing gap between reality and fantasy.

The suggestion Liverpool may have as much as £35m to bid for Eto’o – as one report suggested last week – would be heartily welcomed by the manager, but so far he’s been given no clue he has anything like this budget as his disposal.

He’s more likely to spend the next few days assessing how to raise funds through sales rather than await the huge cheque many presumed available following the takeover.

The bit in bold type is a little concerning that maybe we aren't going to see the BIG signings that we're all expecting or that the transfers aren't going to start happening in the foreseeable future. If thats the case then no wonder Rafa threw a wobbly in that press conference the other week.

Again it nothing more than newspaper speculation but the Echo is a lot closer to whats going on at Liverpool FC and to see them reporting that Rafa may be looking to sell before he can buy is VERY disheartening.

I think I speak for everyone on here and who supports LFC that I'm looking forward to seeing us finally getting one or two new signings sorted and then finally all of these negative stories that have surfaced since the champions league final can be consigned to the dustbin.

The most concerning to me is the timing. I don't expect a Chelsea-esque budget, but I'd expect Rafa knowing by now what money he'll have at his disposal. If he doesn't know that how will he target reasonable players?

Maybe it's a tactic in the other hand. Maybe he knows, but he doesn't want to tell the market "hey, I've got lots of money" otherwise the players would be more expensive just because of that.

hit the nail on the head there sabre as i said before i think hes playing his cards very close to his chest he knows who he wants and when the time is write he will strike why go and tell everyone who you wanna buy just keep quiet and go about and do your bussiness wedont need to get into a bidding war we want players to come and play for the shirt they wear not how much money they can ripp off us

Im expecting these new owners to provide serious funds.  There has to be a reason why the club chose them and not DIC.  I thought these guys were going hand the manager serious funds?

In the words of Jerry Maguire.................... "show me the money!!"

It's all good saying Rafa is going to be backed and be signings good enough to challenge will come is all well and good but as they say:

Put up for shut up
Talk the talk and walk the walk
etc

It's time for the American's to stop talking and start signing cheques, until we sign quality world class players then I'm sceptical :(

I was reading an article in the Football Echo* on Saturday by the same journo (Chris Bascombe) and apparently as part of the takeover deal there was a clause in there stating that the new owners had to provide a minimum transfer kitty of around £30m. It didn't however say that this clause also said it had to be per season, this summer or per window. Assuming there is no time constraint then Rafa could have spent his funds for this summer (not the ones he raises through sales) already on the Hungarian kids ???  (highly unlikely I hope  :suspect: ). There has been no evidence to suggest that the new owners will not invest in the team and I think we are all getting a little bit twitchy on the trigger regarding jumping to conclusions about Rafa's transfers but it is some further food for thought.
I will say this though, I am starting to get the feeling that these "GALACTICO" style players we've all started to dream of/expect this summer may not materialise.
