sabre should know a thing or two about him but....fom what iv seen of him...when he is played in the wing he tends to stay forward and play as a 2nd or 3rd striker -to some extent- neglecting his defensive duties...

bt a brilliant player overalll... would be absolutely thrilled if he signed !

I don't rate him as highly as yo have ace, but I rate him as a very good full back. But to be honest, I'd sooner see our money spent on a top striker, top right winger and a top left mid before we go about looking at full back - a position that Finnan is very adept at.

but id rather have him than have simao in the right wing nonetheless !
as a rightback he scored 5 goals and made more than 10 assists in the league and uefa cup only.. he also had 57 shots with 50% of them being on target... the 2nd most # of shots taken in his club after kanoute who scored 21...

That's where I disagree, Simao in my opinion is less of a risk. You know where he is going to play, you know what he is capable of and he seems physically up to the challenge.

With Alves, you don't know where he would fit in with Finnan here.

He is not a right mid/right winger like Pennant, although he could be deployed there. I consider it more of a risk given his diminutuve figure and given we don't know where he would play.

in terms of ability...he has more to offer than pennant, finnan and even simao... he played as RW alot for seville so its not as if him playing there for us would be a drastic move for him... again...you doubt his physical presence and again...id suggest u actually watch him before saying he would be a risk !

I'd suggest you come out from your own backside before saying that.

I have seen Alves plenty, and he is a quality player with a lot of talent and technical ability. Please don't act as if you are the ONLY person on this earth who has seen Alves play.

I really don't think there is a starting 11 that would win the league, but looking at the options in our squad i think we have the right stuff, we only need to choose how to use them.

GK- Reina, Carson (if he stays)
RB- Finnan, Arbeloa (showed glimpses of class on the few games he's had, although he also had stinkers)
CD- Carragher, Agger, Hyppia
LB- Aurelio, Riise
DM- Mascherano, Xabi
CM- Leiva, Gerrard, Sissoko
LM- Kewell, Leto
RM- Pennant
AM- Garcia
Forwards- Crouch, Voronin, Bellamy, Kuyt

That is our squad pretty much up until now for next season. Maybe add another RM if Hammill gets a chance. There is a lot of quality if everyone stays fit, yet as I see it maybe we need another right winger, another striker (sorry Bellamy, of the ones we have you have to go) and MAYBE another left winger or left back (if Kewell or Aurelio can't stay fit).

i think Joquain is ruled out even though he is a great player he smokes which is a thing Rafa doesnt like because this could really affect him in the prem

Controversial: if we sign 2 worldclass wingers ... even if we dont sign a worldclass striker we can challenge for the league...given we play gerrard in the middle .
worldclass as in D.Silva..Joaquin...Robben...Mancini...Messi...Vicente
i realize that most of these players arent realistic targets but maybe D.Silva and Joaquin ..maybe Mancini if we make a big offer...u never know

Crouch imo can score 20 or 30+ goals a season if we rely on our winger to do most of the work.. maybe even go for a 4-5-1 formation sometimes which is also called 4-3-3 with 2 attacking wingers acting as supporting strikers..

looking back at our season...not only was our finishing poor... but we also -more often than not- didnt look dangerous going forward... we mostly had posession but no clearcut scoring opportunities.. just a crazy thught but thought id share it

Crouch will never get anywhere near 30 goals in any season!!! and joaquin is no world class player anymore from what vie seen the past 12 months.

What we need is someone to play right up front and let kuyt do the running, justa poacher who can hit the target. We could do a lot worse than someone like defoe if you ask me who knows where the goal is. get a class winger in (pennant was looking good tho, and kewell if fit is good) and we're getting there. dont need to buy etoo, tevez and owen... some people in dream land here

Ditto, Crouch can do an effective job, but I don't think 20-30 goals a season is within his capabilities IMO.

And Joaquin "world class", I'd like the evidence.
