Ticket allocations - Wembley, uefa and their "families"...

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby AussieKopite » Fri May 25, 2007 1:01 am

I noticed that both West Brom and Derby are disappointed that they were only allocated 33,500 seats each for the Championship play off and that they could sell thousands more. Its an all too familiar story as Liverpool went through the same trouble with the Champions League.

Obviously sponsors need to be looked after, however are concepts like the UEFA Family and Club Wembley harming football's showpiece events? Are they denying the hardcore fans who may no be able to afford to go to away games and every home game?

What are peoples thoughts on the matter?

Clubs and football associations will always have a responsibility to sponsors and commercial 'partners'.

But it's when those tickets allocated to sponsors etc. end up being sold on for thousands to real fans, that is what is unacceptable. UEFA knew there would be a hell of a lot more than 17000 Liverpool fans in the Olympic stadium, why can't they track those tickets that have not been taken up by sponsors etc. and review it for next time.

It's the fans who make these events so special, they KNOW that tickets they have allocated to their mates will be sold on the black market, that is a given.

17,000 is a joke for the greatest club game in the world, it is THE game of the year.

It's not just the size of the stadium that's the issue, the capacity of the Athens olympic stadium was 63,000. In my view, the very least we should be receiving is 25,000. Then split 13,000 between the UEFA ballot and sponsors.
Most of the people in the UEFA ballot have no interest whatsoever in going to the game, they intend solely to line their own pockets.

Likewise many of the tickets allocated to sponsors end up on the black market.

UEFA know this, yet they let it continue.

As for ticket security, in the Euros in 2004 tickets had to be scanned by a machine before being allowed in the stadium, that would eradicate forgeries.

I know that Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane has machine scanners to stop forgeries and that there have rarely been complaints about forgeries for its biggest events like State of Origin or Rugby League test matches or our national team's games.

UEFA only awards the Champions League finals to stadiums that are "5-star" which fulfill a few conditions including a minimum 60,000 seat capacity. Does UEFA need to look at increasing its capacity?

What about reports for the Championship playoff that there could be approx 10,000 seats vacant at Wembley due to Club Wembley's arragnements. I understand that these people and companies pay good money to have those seats, but would be it fairer that maybe once the tickets are released, offer them to the club members and if they know in advance that they wont be using their seats, they're released to the clubs..?
