Agreed, and this is where the tests done with the 4-4-1-1 formation could become handy. IMHO, and it was proven in Stamford Bridge, playing two strikers if you don't control the middle of the pitch is useless, not that Bellamy was cráp in Stamford Bridge, he simply was unoperative because we were losing the battle in the middle. In this kind of games if a winger like Pennant is playing, chances are the "pundits" and "experts" will say that he's having a bad game, because if you don't control the middle, as a winger you pick the ball far from where you're dangerous.
The best way to attack that formation IMHO would be with one pure winger tops, and a midfielder in one of the sides, never two wingers. And we should play wide, and KEEP POSSESION, in that game we'd pay dearly to lose silly balls, and we've lost quite many this season.
I'd play with our best midfielders, that is Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano, one single striker, only one pure winger prefferably Pennant, and a solid man for the left, Riise for instance.
I'm at the same time worried and excited, because I think that the formation that makes more harm to us is the one MIlan AC is using. But if we do a proper pressure not too up in the pitch and we wait for them, we can make them harm. They're going to be very dangerous in the counters, but they'll struggle with that formation if we wait them, and have our two back lines well packed.
I can't wait to see that battle.
