I voted no because I just don't think in the one game against Charlton that he can get match fit and after all it is bloody AC Milan we are playing so he is either fit or not.

A :no for me

May 11, 2007 AUSTRALIA superstar Harry Kewell has declared himself fitter than ever and ready to earn Champions League redemption in Liverpool's re-match with AC Milan.

The injury-plagued 28-year-old finally returned to action for the first time since the 2006 World Cup as a late substitute in Liverpool's 1-0 loss to Fulham last Saturday.

He also played 35 minutes for the reserves last week and has one more chance to impress manager Rafael Benitez – Sunday's Premier League clash with Charlton at Anfield – before a Reds team is named for the trip to Athens to face the Italian giant on May 23.

Kewell is looming as a possible bench selection for a Reds outfit which will attempt to win the club's sixth European crown in a repeat of the remarkable 2005 final.

In that match, Kewell was controversially picked to start by manager Rafael Benitez after another injury lay-off, only to break down after just 22 minutes as Liverpool limped into half-time seemingly doomed trailing 3-0.

The Reds fought back to tie the final up at 3-3, eventually winning the prestigious trophy on penalties, and Kewell would love an opportunity to make an impact this time around.

"I've been working hard over the last eight weeks," Kewell said in an interview with ESPN.

"We did testing the other day, everything went well. The manager's happy, the assistant manager's happy, the fitness coaches are happy, so it's literally down to the manager.

"I'm feeling as close to 100 per cent as I've ever felt before in my life, the only thing I'm missing is competitive games."

The Reds have gradually improved under Benitez, winning the Champions League and FA Cup over the past two seasons, although they are still lagging behind Manchester United and Chelsea in the premiership.

Benitez has struggled to find a suitable player to fill the left side of midfield and Kewell's quickness and crossing ability could be a trump card against AC Milan.

The least deserving player to ever have won that much.

I'd still pick though as Zenden is rubbish.

why doesnt he deserve them??
because he was unlucky enough to get injured??

there are far less talented players than harry kewell with more medals than him ask david may

He contributed nothing towards LFC winning those trophies. We were 2-0 down when he went off against Milan and I think we were 2-0 when he went off against West Ham. He contributed nothing towards us getting to those finals either.

Bit harsh that, he set up Pongo's goal against Olympiacos and was man of the match against Chelsea in FA cup semi.

He was probably the best player on the pitch against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final last year, mate.  Hardly a nothing contribution on the road to Cardiff.  I'd also point out that he came on in the last 10 minutes against Chelsea in the 2nd leg of the CL semi the year before and helped minimize their ability to get the goal they needed by keeping possession deep in their territory.  I remember it well because he's been out for donkey's and I thought Rafa was insane to put him on in that situation but he helped shut Chelsea down.  So, he did play a part to get us to both finals--a small one in 2005 and a sizeable one in 2006.

All that's besides the point anyway.  We want to win in Athens, yeah?  Well, then, let's not cut off our nose to spite our face.  I'm not saying Kewell guarantees a win or anything like that but he offers us more attacking nous than anyone else we can put at LM.  If he plays a role in getting us another historic victory I certainly won't begrudge him his medal or a place on the open-top bus on parade day.

Ask yourself this...if Luis Garcia were miraculously fit and able to play at least part of the game in Athens would you consider using him or would you automatically quash the thought, given that he's had no part in getting us there since part way through the group stages?  Put another way, has frustration made it personal with Harry in a way that it doesn't with other injured players?  ???

My original post said that I'd still pick him in the team if he is fit as he is better than Zendan.

So therefore you can f**k off - I reckon your his agent. :D

it's not a matter of who deserves to be on the side, it's about putting the best team on the pitch.

the lad really won me over last season and i reckon it is fate for him to come back and have an amazing final, quotes like fitter than ever are good to hear , but we all want to see him giving them a problem that zenden and gonzo can't provide

I don't think he's ready to play in the European Cup final.

Play him today against Charlton. Then in summer matches.

If he gets injured again, we should sell him.
