I expect Benitez to go with a solid five in midfield but with the whole team given instruction to push Milan and knock them out of their stride. Along with Kewell I think Bellamy will be kept back as an option to change the game if needed.

Agreed. Normally I'd say a player who hasn't played all season should  included in a major final but considering our options on the left wing a fit Harry Kewell can only be a positive.

I must say I still find it slightly embarrassing that people slag Kewell of for his withdrawal in the final. I mean if your groin goes and you can't move properly what can you do? some people make out like he made himself injured to get off the pitch. Ridiculous. Harry Kewell is case in point of an extremely unfortunate talented footballer who in recent years has become injury prone.

Most fans can't speak highly enough of him when he is on form, so I say include him in the squad and lets see what he can offer us on the day.

When fit, Harry is miles ahead of anything we have on the left hand side.  If he can prove his match fitness this weekend, I think you start him against Milan.  If not, play Riise there, and bring Kewell on in the second half w/ Riise moving back to LB.  No question we put our best weapons in the squad and play to our strengths for this one.  Make the match fixers play our style and plan the parade.

Does Kewell deserve a place in the final considering he has played no part in getting us there? Add to that his injury record since he joined and I wouldn't risk him. We don't need primadonnas who simply appear in finals as if it is their birthright, it would stick in the throat if he plays three games for us all season and one was the CL final

I agree with BigMick, he will play for a new contract i'm sure of that.  Theres no time for sentiment either, he may not have played his part on teh field this season, but you'd be a fool to not pick him because of that reason.  He has many qualities and we need another left sided player for what will be a huge game.

If Rafa thinks Harry could be the diffrence between wining and loseing that game then he must play there is no doubt a fit Harry is a potent weapon in attack.

We need to test him because right now you could say physically that he is fit but really you need to play, you need to tackle, and to sprint."

He really need to do this if he wants to play for the final..i hope he gets his fitness up

I would love to see him in the finals rather then zenden

kewell gets a lot of stick but he`s a quality player.
last year in the f.a cup semi final he was absolutely brilliant against chelsea at old trafford and was man of the match by a mile.
i think a lot of harry`s problems are psychological, i`m not saying he`s a nutter but some people become so afraid of things they convince themselves its going to happen like catching diseases or something.
i think kewells like that but over injuries, i think he`s got a phobia of sorts, i think he`s so scared of getting injured he convinces himself he is.
this season alone some of the snippets i`ve read about harry`s injury situation seem to resonate between the bizarre and the ridiculous, at one point it was a dodgy groin, next he had gout, next he had arthritis in his foot and i`m sure one report was he might need an amputation or something for a genetic foot condition!!
next minute there`s a report he`s over his injury problems for good after having a certain operation!
no wonder supporters dont know where they stand with him.
he is an excellent player though and i`d give him the whole game against charlton, if he came through that without a problem, considering there`s still a week and a half after the charlton game to get even fitter, i`d play him.
i think he`d give the milan players a lot more problems than zenden or gonzales.

I dont think he will start the game, i can see Zenden continuing his fine form from the Chelsea game and getting the nod.

I would however give him a run out in the latter stages of the game just to get at Milans tired back four, i wont go as far as to say put him on if we need him because i really dont see them causing us any problems at all and number 6 is as good as in the cabinet

Ill leave that carrot dangling for the pessimists !

If Harry is fit, then without question he should start in LM, with Riise at LB. At the very least he should make the bench. Considering our options (Gonzalez, Zenden) it's a no brainer. He has to go to Athens!

Mascherano had nothing to do with us getting out of the group stages but there was no problem playing him against Chelsea was there?  If Kewell plays it turns one of our biggest weaknesses into a possible strength because he is a threat to score goals and take on a defender.  I really want Kewell to play in the final if he starts against Fulham and plays well

Don't like this post,
I doubt Harry chose to be injured for every game except for finals.
You are implying that he choses to be injured all season so he can come back for the last few games, i doubt thats what he wants at all
He is a good player, faw better than Speedy Zenden and Arbeloa and therefore if fit and able should take their place in the squad.
What you are sayin is that despite the fact he is a good player punish him further for something he can't control?
Don't you think he hates being injured? hates not playing?
I obviously don't know him personally and i doubt you do, but i really doubt that anyone thinks like that
give him a break and let him concentrate on playing football, whether that's in this final or not
