yeah, amazing ammounts, but also a footballer earning 150,000 quid a week earns about 15 million USD a year at current rates, bearing in mind there are 13 4 week months a year as oppossed to calender months

Too much money in NBA Basketball. They should be grateful to their country and basketball, but then the Olympiads come, the World Championship come, and some of them can't be ársed to defend the shirt of their country.

And they do not that because they love their team and their team is everything that counts, as they happily change franchises if they pay enough or they think is a more winner team.

I think that when you're ridiculously rich, you lose motivation sometimes.

Alan Houston retired in 2005, but the reason why basketball players can make so much is that there is only a total of 12 people on the team. One superstar player can win a championship almost by himself, only needs other pretty good role players and they pay an 82 game regular season with all the games on TV.  Lots of money generated not a whole lot of people to spread it around to.  The reason why the US is terrible at international basketball is because we think that every other country isn't anywhere near as good as we are and we think we can always win by not practicing as a team and without our top talent, and Americans never want to adjust their game to the International style of  play. If you want to talk big time contracts look no further than Alex Rodriguez's 10 year 252 million dollar contract given out by Tom Hicks two years after he bought the FRANCHISE for 250 million

I think that the best basketball of the world, have been and is the american one.

They should never lose against the likes of Garbajosa, Gasol or Calderon, those are good NBA players but not the best (maybe Gasol at his best he can make it to the all star)

I just can't understand how men like O'Neill weren't defending the shirt of their country. Why is that? Men like Tim Duncan are stars aswell, but they fight for their country! Quite simply if USA brought their best to the international stage, they'd win to anybody, no matter the FIBA rules are different.

That happened in the 92, with Jordan, Magic Johnson and that marvelous squad. Probably nowadays NBA players are not as magic as that generation, but still they should win in the international level. Just the same way USA is the best in track and field 100 m and other sports.

Nobody in America cares about the international stage in any team sport.  The only time we pay attention is the olympics and then its usually to the sports that we only follow once every 4 years like track and field or gymnastics or swimming.  The NBA and college basketball are the only things that matter if you are a basketball fan in America.  Everyone was mildly embarrased in Greece when we won the bronze medal in basketball but we knew it was because NONE of our stars wanted to go because of the rumor about the security in Greece was not ready for the Olympics

NBA players make money like that because it's an individual sport with not much team focus, at least in the majority.  so Kobe Bryant is more valuable to his team than a star football player.  Also, you only have so many players you have to pay.

IMO the NBA sucks.  Except for the Bulls that is.
