Not sure about 3 at the back. Have we ever played 3 at the back against any big team?

Well, about the game,no much to say,we lost 1-0,and at this level its very difficult to go through,no goals away.
However,Anfield its difficult for the opponents and i believe that this time things could change.Important score early to  control the game in our stadium.
Go reds.

Finnan            Carragher        Hyppia            Arbeloa

Pennant          Gerrard         Mascherano            Riise

                     Crouch       Kuyt

I would start with that and see how we go, if we havent scored by halftime i would come out for the second half with this...

                                  Reina

Finnan                     Carragher              Hyppia

Pennant               Mascherano               Bellamy

                            Gerrard

           Crouch          Fowler      Kuyt

S.hit or bust we need to score, if we are going to go out lets go out fighting  :buttrock

2 problems with that...

1) Hyppia will be beaten by Drogba's pace all night
2) Rafa will never play 3 strikers...I fear I'll see him taking Crouch out and putting Bellarmy there instead

Hyppia should be experienced enough not to allow Drogba time to turn and run at him, and lets face it how many times does Drogba actually do that?

He totally bullied Agger in the first game and at least hyppia would be more than a match for him when Chelsea switch to their long ball game. Its either that or gat Carra to mark Drogba and let Hyppia or Agger deal with Shevchenko.

Robben is expected to be fit for the return leg, so i expect our LM and RM to be in for a busy night.

My original second team was a bit tongue in cheek, but i wouldnt care if we lost by a few aslong as we had a real good go at it and not play it cautious, this is our big chance to take a step nearer to number 6, lets go for it

Good point about Agger Destro!

It was a pure mismatch the other night...Agger was like a poddle versus a pitbull.
Im not slating the fella though he is still young and will have learned from the experience. His problem is not technical, its more down to his weight or lack of it!
Drogba is a big beast of a man and Agger is still to fill out...he needs another stone or two on him and more upper body strength to contend with physical forwards like Drogba!

So Hyypia is a good shout. Not the fastest but his footballing brain and positioning will be an asset against the likes of Drogba...he should handle him fine! Also its worth saying Drogba probably wont get away with being as physical as he was this time as they are away from home.

A few have mentioned on here that Hyypia's lake of pace may be a problem, that is utter balls.
Hyypia was not ever fast but has more than held his own against some of the best and fastest Strikers in the world throughout his LFC career!

My own view is that we are only a goal down and we don't need to go mad and throw everything at them from the start. The main thing is not to conceed an early goal(or any goal come to that!), play at a high tempo from the off and hope that Chelsea tire as the match goes on. If we havnt scored by about 70mins then we need to throw caution to the winds and really go at them.

If Chelsea don't score I am pretty confident we will go through, if Chelsea grab a goal I think we're as good as out.

saint...   we cant hope chelsea dont score,  the chances are they will score,  we have to go all out from the start at a high tempo...   im being honest now when i say we need to score 3 goals against them in 90 mins,   we cant afford to mess about against chelsea, and then pay the price for a silly mistake late on...   i hope they dont score against us...   but in saying all this...  we are good enough to score 3 against them.   :;):

Problem is mate I honestly don't think we are good enough up front to score 3 in normal time. I would settle here and now for 1-0 and extra time.
