If as Badbob has said the team has moved on and we no longer require a battling destroyer type of player, thats fair enough but don't judge him prematurely. Having Gerrard playing as second striker or in the hole or whatever cr@p you want to call it is never going to suit Sissoko, as Gerrard wants and needs that space for himself when playing that role (which in itself is not Gerrards forte). I agree he is probably now our 4 choice, but I still think he is a worthy 4th choice.

Saint, am not on his back mate, never have been. The lads a decent player and certainly a good fourth choice. But thats the point, thats all he'll ever be.

I like him, but he'll never be good enough to start every week.

Momo is a good battling, ball-winning midfielder, but he lacks even basic skills elsewhere in his game.

How many more times does this need to be said?

I want to keep the lad, as he definitely has his uses, but he ain't good enough to keep Gerrard, Xabi or Mascherano out of the team for anything other than a rest.

RAFA BENITEZ is ready to take the rap for midfielder Momo Sissoko’s recent loss of form.

And the Reds boss believes the young African will bounce back from his travails to become a mainstay of the Liverpool squad for years to come.

Since returning from a lengthy absence with a dislocated shoulder, Sissoko has failed to recapture the heights he scaled during a highly impressive first season in English football.

Against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night he endured his most ineffective appearance to date, before he was hauled off just six minutes after the interval.

With Steven Gerrard back in his vacated central midfield berth, Liverpool went on to win 2-0, with the skipper scoring both goals.
But Benitez said today that fans should point the finger at the manager rather than the young midfielder.

“I knew that Momo was having some problems in that position on Wednesday, but that was more my fault than his fault,” said Benitez. “I said to him ‘play here and try to do your best’ because I wanted to play a different system, but he had problems because the other team was compact and very narrow.

“They constricted the space between the lines and for him to play in this position was a big problem.
“But I wanted to check out another system.
“It was more my fault than his, but at the end of the day people must remember he is 22-years-old and has done a very good job, a fantastic job, for two seasons and we must support him.”
Benitez revealed that he spoke to Sissoko the morning after the Middlesbrough match and reassured him.

“He sometimes needs an arm around him because he loses confidence, but never because he has stopped working,” said the Reds boss.

“I spoke to him on Thursday and I said ‘I don’t have any problems. Keep working. I have a lot of confidence in you.’

“I said I know there are former players and people here in Liverpool who are talking, but I say if you work hard the supporters will be with you.

“If you make mistakes keep working and keep doing the same things and the people will be with you.

“Everybody knows what Momo Sissoko gives to us. He works really hard and he was a key player for us against Barcelona and lots of other games.

“Also, he is a player who can give freedom to Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso.

“But we must be patient with him. If a player is not working hard, okay you can criticise him.

“He is working really hard and he has also played very well after a bad injury, so I say we must be calm and support the player.

“He is a young player and he will have maybe eight or 10 years at this level.

“Momo is a very good worker and he needs to be more confident with the ball. He’s a professional player and he wants to do the best every time.”

This is what puzzles me about rafa , why on earth is he trying out a new system with 4 games to go until the end of the season, talk about forward planning.

Trying new systems out now in these games like we have been. Is giving nothing away for the champions league game with Chelsea. They will be like :censored:

Despite I defend him, I swear I'm not Rafa's brother

IMHO Rafa is testing a system he knows very well, the 4-4-1-1, and the outcome of these tests, have been a draw away, a great victory against Arsenal, a victory against Reading, and a victory against Middlesborough. Rijkaard also changed his system to play against us, heh, we eliminated them.

Why now and not the past season? because now he has Pennant, and yesteryear we hadn't. Now we have Mascherano, and we hadn't him in November. He has the men to try it out. And tested Sissoko in a home game to see if he can suit the system. It didn't work.

OTher than that, what Rafa is saying, is what Bigmick and many of us are saying, that Sissoko had an important contribution in the past, admittedly he's not having good games as of late, but with hard work and a tap in the shoulder he'll come back.

Check out the bashing "Stu" got for saying (a year or two ago) what everyone else is saying about him now.

In the thread I started on Sissoko, I was just celebrating Sissoko has returned to form, appears to have gained a little more composure and started to play well again. When I mentioned you Stu it was because your opinion did and still does carry a lot of weight with many of us, not a get at Stu post at all.

I dont think what I said then (or you said )contradicts what I said in my latest thread.
