Do lfc need raul ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Red Macgregor » Wed Apr 11, 2007 1:58 pm

From BBC:
Real Madrid striker Raul is interested in a move to Liverpool. (Independent)

What would Raul bring to LFC ?
Even as a free transfer, he would probably demand a huge wage, enough to break current structures !!
Would he add anything more than perhaps disruption to the dressing room.

totally agree- another Morientes- he wouldn't make the impact we need if we're going to move forward (IMO).

I'd rather see Tevez, Eto'o or someone similar.

Getting Raul now would be like getting the George Weah that Man City found themselves with circa 2000.

A big name, but not a lot of player with it these days.

Raul's days in Madrid are coming to an end, and he'd never sign up for one of is archenemies, Barcelona or Atletico Madrid. So a foreign league is the best option for him, the one with the best wages is the English one, and Liverpool has a spanish manager and some Spanish players. Plus, LFC is an important team, if he does well here, he'd still have chances to go to the national squad. I can see why he would want to be here.

He's a goal poacher, but out of the box isn't that dangerous, and in England even less. If Fowler went, he'd be a good goal poacher option. But we don't need him, because if you're going to bring one player with his wages, is so that he becomes an important member of the squad.

Raul inside a box isn't finnished, he has great positioning and knows where the net is, but he's been asked to do things he doesn't know to do well.

Much is being spoken about Tevez as of late. In the Spanish footie forums you have dozens of Argentinians talking about their players. I haven't seen much Tevez, but many Argentinians of his former club think he's vastly overrated.

Argentina has 6 future super stars every year, they know selling their stuff, but not everything that shines is gold.

Trust me..he is not overrated

If England have Rooney

Argentina Have Tevez

He has pace , good first touch ,great shot and links up well with players around him . Itz taken him awhile to show what he can at west ham but he's doing it now , not a very good place to start a carear in the english game anyway.

About Raul - he's a legend at r.madrid that shows what he is capable of. i thinks that he needs a fresh start , r.madrid is like :censored: at the moment all he need is a manager who knows what he can and belives in him. I think rafa can bring back the best of him out again.I read somewhere he could come on a free transfer and willing to take a pay cut , if rafa wants him.. why not..?

Yep, my fault, I haven't seen him in England as I watch only LFC games so I didn't know of his good form since Christmas.

It's true though that the very fans of his former club didn't rate him as much as we do now. Since I didn't know of his games here, I posted it just in case, as it's not the first time a superb class Argentinian striker fails miserably in Europe -- Palermo for instance failed in Villareal.

He's peaked and too used to the spanish game, I dont know whther he could raise the level of fitness nor motivation needed for the english game. Great player though, but a move to Italy would be more logical.

Raul...no thank you. By the time he's fully adjusted to the English game, he would have lost another yard of his pace
