Yes I do remember the weaker team vs. Arsenal I went to my friends house (who supports arsenal) to watch it and we got destroyed it was miserable, but I was not suggesting as weak of a team that played against them, I would not even consider not starting Reina.  The carling cup match featured Paletta, Warnock, Guthrie, and Peltier.  I am not suggesting a side nearly as weak as that one, especially defensively.  The only glaring weakness is the fact that Gerrard is not featured, but I wouldn't want to risk him getting injured, and since he played in two internationals last week played arsenal last Saturday PSV on Tuesday Reading tomorrow I would think he deserves a break, and if he does start I would expect  him to come off early if it is still 0-0 or if we score

The CL game is pretty much locked up, I could see Stevie missing out on that game.  I think Rafa might go with a centre midfield of Gerrard and Mascherano vs. Reading and Alonso and momo vs. PSV. I like Pennant on the right agaisnt Reading and I hope to see Paul Anderson get a game against PSV.  I like Bellamy and Crouch to start against reading with fowler to come on fairly early for Crouch, while Lindfield or El Zhar and Fowler to feature in the home match against Eindhoven.  ALso want to see Sami feature in both games

Joe there is no question of Raffa putting out a weakened side against PSV or playing reserves mate!

Think about it..after next Wednesday we should be in the SEMIS OF THE C/L..ffs!
If Raffa shows disrespect to PSV it will be vastly unprofessional! We have one foot in the semis but in football anything can happen, anything!

There is no way Raffa will jepordise our chance of winning this competition by taking it for granted that we are through..if he did he would be a bad manager and foolish! Not Raffa!

we played a very weak side against Galatasary once we had locked up a birth into the knockout stages.  And I was only mentioning not  playing our top talent up front because goals aren't a priority.  I think Finnan, Carra, Sami, Arbeloa/Riise at the back with Reina in goal should play against PSV.  A central midfield of ALonso and Momo is pretty solid and playing Gonzalez on the left is probably our best option.  Heck after Crouch, some would argue that Fowler might be our best option considering recent play, and Kuyt possibly purposefully gave himself a yellow card to miss out on this game  I am not exactly certain which players are also in danger of suspension if they get a yellow but I would consider not playing them either.  I am sure there is a bigger chance of Rafa putting Zenden out there, either from the start or on the hour mark, and personally I would rather see Anderson get a crack on the right.  We all know what Zenden is capable of, and it isn't very impressive and many think he will be gone after this season, but Anderson is only 18 and Rafa must rate him because he put him on the bench last season against benfica when he was 17.  In the Barca game, Rafa knew that we didn't have to score in order advance and strategized accordinly, I think he will do the same only now the senario is much different having won 3-0 in the first leg instead of 2-1.

Raffa put out a 'weaker' team at Anfield in the Carling Cup vs Arsenal Joe!

We all know what happened there...May i remind you fella that PSV are the team that put arsenal out of the C/L.Also their away form has been very very good in the competition so far!
This is the quarters of the C/L mate..nothing is left to chance and nothing taken for granted!

there's one major difference. dudek will not be in goal this time around.

it doesn't really matter as long as we generally field our best defensive lineup. we can make changes in midfield and attack but aslong as our defence remains strong, psv will be lucky to score at all, let alone 4 times.

I have no idea what so ever why people on here would want to rest players, (I think they think its fun to rotate the team around) It maybe a bit of fun on here but I hope to God Rafa doesnt.
Reading will give us a much sterner test than Arsenal or PSV did, resting players isnt a must IMO we've hardly played too much football over the last month or so. So the players should be alright physically, if we did rotate and lost as a result of it that would just throw away the 4-1 over Arsenal.

My team :D

                                    Reina

               Finnan     Carra      Agger    Riise

                             Mascha    Alonso

               Pennant        Gerrard       Bellamy

Milita Rushers "My teams". He comes on the board, posts his teams for the next few games (like we all care)... then fucks off, comes back a few games later and does the same...

Offering no explanation or arguement and no reasoning other than he likes to write his formations and teams out on a computer...

               Pennant        Gerrard       Bellamy

                                   Crouch

You have to admit it is fun.  I think most people when they list their teams are more likely to put down what they would want to see rather than their best guess at what Rafa is actually going to do.
Reading:
                Reina
  Finnan   Carra  Hyypia   Riise
Pennant Gerrard Mascherano Gonzalez
              Bellamy   Crouch
Subs: Dudek, Agger, Alonso, Kuyt, Zenden

The last time Hyypia played for the first team was the 4-0 Sheffield United game on February 24th, a game in which he scored.  I would like to see him in both the PSV and Reading games but I think it will just be against PSV.  I know a couple of times Rafa has tried Bellamy on the left with Kuyt and/or Crouch up top, but I cant remember if we had any success with it, something tells me no, but Gonzalez has been the only sore spot in both the last two games in my opinion, although he didnt get much of a chance against PSV and the game wasn't in doubt either.
And on Wednesday against PSV:
                   Reina
Finnan    Carra    Hyypia    Arbeloa
Anderson     Alonso   Momo     Riise
                 Fowler    Lindfield
Subs: Dudek, Agger, Gerrard, Zenden, Crouch, El Zhar, Paletta

Gerrard deserves a break.  It is very strong at the back, and with Momo and Riise in midfield too; I would think it would be nearly impossible for PSV to score three goals on that team. Plus Rafa would be able to give two of his younger talents a shot to see if they have what it takes to make it on a BIG stage, and yet they shouldnt be under any pressure because it isnt as if they NEED to make anything happen because there is a strong side out there supporting them, and a really strong bench in case it falls 2-0 the wrong way.

out of the blocks early today. Bellamy and kuyt up front id say. The reading defenders play a tough game and its not the sort crouch will like as much, plus hed be perfect to bring on.

momo should make a return and he should quite easily be able to get stuck into a physical midfield game, allowing alonso to pass mroe to the wings, where id have gonzales and stevie.

We go in guns balzing and get a nic early goal and should be another good result for us id hope.
