Who will you be cheering for tonight?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Woof - spot on mate.

Once the police over there start swinging their batons, they don't care if it's someone that's thrown something, or charged at them, or not. They just seem to just keep hitting people until they get bored.

Doubtless, some of the Man U fans were out of order. Push them back with riot shields if that's the case. Nobody deserves to be beaten half to death at a football match.

Totally agree with you woof. Some people need to put the rivalry to one side and have a proper look at what has happened. Then they'll realise that it wasn't entirely the man u fans fault. We have to remember that milan fans threw a motorcycle when they played Celtic I think.

I know there weren't Milan fans there last night, but Italian fans in general can be nasty.

nothing to do with rivalry.

If LFC fans charged the police then I would think that the police should give them a good beating and swing the baton as much as they want.
None of these softy softy bullsh1t, if you're out of order, you deserve a good beating.

probably just as well I don't have children :D

Its hard to call, I wasn't there, I don't know what happened.

This has nothing to do with rivalry, but if you are in a foreign country, miles from home, and you see a swarm of pi.ssed off policemen coming at you with truncheons wearing riot gear you get the hell out of Dodge, as there is only going to be one winner. If you are a Man UTD fan, Chelsea fan, Celtic fan or Bayern Munich fan, it doesn't matter: if you think you are going to take on the police in a stadium you have got another thing coming. Whether you are in Italy, England or India, if you riot in a stadium you are going to get the same reaction from the cops: overwhelming force to put down the riot as quickly as possible.

So, those Man UTD fans can whinge about the Italian cops did this, the Italian cops did that, the truth is, those fans who charged back at the Italian police in retaliation not only put themselves in danger but also put countless of their own fellow supporters who were minding their own business in danger with their actions: a riot cop, whether he is English, Italian or Brazilian, is not going to discriminate who he hits with his baton when he sees all hell breaking loose in front of him.

HOWEVER, AC Roma and the Rome authorities have yet again disgraced themselves and Italian football. I just knew that there would be trouble having listened to the pre-match build up. The Roma players were making snide pot shots at the Mancs which were only going to inflame tensions among the supporters. Totti, as club captain, was making all sorts of snide comments not only about English football but also about England as a country. Absolutely disgraceful and irresponsible behaviour. If I was a chairman of a club trying to protect the interests of the club and its image I would have slapped Totti six ways till Sunday for his remarks. Totti is just another example of the feckless retarted modern footballer which is all about flash cars, big money and no responsibility other than what goes on on a football field (and there, ironically, Totti is often found wanting when the pressure is on, the choker) who thinks he can go around saying what he wants without any repercussions. What a flamin' idiot.

I love Italy and its culture and I love visiting it (I have each year for the past couple of years) but it really needs to sort its football out. As Wolly said earlier, its got problems left right and centre with corruption, undue influence, performance enhancing dugs, match fixing, racism and increasingly, violence. Each club has its own hooligan element called the Ultras and a stop needs to be put on these boys. Up until recent riots which left a policeman dead Italian stadiums didn't even have turnstiles and Italian fans were able to easily bring weapons and contraband into stadiums. I am tempted to say that Italy should be on its last chance, and that the next time they act up, they should get, say, a two year blanket ban from UEFA competitions. However, what if football is not lucky enough to have "only" a repeat of  what happened last Wednesday, what if the "next time" is another Hillsborough or Hysel?

Valencia and Chelsea tonight the winner pretty much play us already although i dont wana jynx anything. Valencia got a good result and a crucial away goal which i can see putting them through although beating chelsea again in the semis would be great.

The man utd roma game looks interesting. Is totti out? man u will suffer with the loss of scholes neville and vidic which could take them out of the champions league

Roma just don't have it.  So shaken.  What a horrible display from the back 4.  Manure hadn't scored inside the first 29 minutes in any CL match yet (according to the commentator).

3 just like that.

Chelsea is very unimpressive. Zaragoza is more creative than them.

BasPSV, I know you're not Dutch, Behave and don't wind up the forum.
