Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

out:

Zenden
Fowler
Hypia
Dudek
Gonzalez

Not sure why people are saying Kuyt should go...he's a good player.  ok, he's not prolific, but he's quality and creates more goals than he scored.

How good would he be for us though?

Chelsea are under-using him a lot this year and he has made noises that he is fed up of it. I know it wouldn't happen but he is a brilliant winger and would work wonders at a club like ours.

There's no need for a spring clean, just a dusting. Bobo and Harry out and bring in class left sider to replace them.

Otherwise, lets get this Villa lad in so we can have a party. No 7 sound good to anyone?

Woodgate and Robben, the leagues two most injury prone players. Suppose we should bring Mikey back then the physios will never complain of being bored....  :eyebrow

Outs:

Zenden: Dont think he's good enough for a title charge
Hyppia: Lost his pace and is nearly past his best
Dudek: Not getting his chance, will want to leave
Bellamy: A possible out

Ins:

Eto'o
Simao
Woodgate
Voronin (Confirmed)

I'd like to see Gonzalez and Kewell given more time. Kewell has had unforutunate injuries and the same with Gonzalez.

The problem with giving lads more time is they cost us 50 thou a week to practise until they get Good.

We should buy'em Good already.

Dudek and Fowler are certain to leave, and with them id add Bellamy, and Kewell. I would keep the rest as we already have some great quality and a lot of players that will be more than useful next season.

Bellamy must go next season IMO as he is of no way near the required level we need up front. Kuyt and Crouch have problems in front of goal but have other attributes that help the team greatly. They can score and create. Bellamy has pace and workrate, and after that nothing. We need a much better pacey option upfront, Stu mentioned Anelka and i wouldnt mind him at all or someone of similar ability and pace.

I like Harry Kewell as a player, but he is far too injury prone and is rarely available for selection, so he must be replaced, but with someone of equal quality. Other than that i think were pretty much sorted providing that the striker and left winger we get are of the highest quality.

Some Posters have mentioned selling Pennant and Hyppia, but that would absolute madness IMO. Pennant is now starting to improve game by game as he gains confidence to beat a man as well as deliver some nice balls, he is finally starting to look threatning, and as for Hyppia he may not be first choice any more but i cant think of another defender who would be better to come in to the side if needed and he would be willing to wait. Hyppia will still be important next season, especially for the tough away days at the likes of Bolton, Everton and all the other long ball/set piece merchants. In these game Sammi will be vital, as i wouldnt be confident with Agger and Carragher having to deal with constant aerial bombardment.

Robbie will go, hopefully to America.

Zenden isn't good enough at this level.

Dudek will go.

I'm on the 'small' changes bandwagon...

to go - -

Dudek ............... recalling Carson (who'll give Reina a real go if he returns to us)
Bolo Zenden........has already been replaced by Mascherano (much better then st.is giving him redit for)
Fowler...............has already been replaced by Voronin (not great but good business as a 4th striker) cheers for the memories robbie
Bellamy..............replaced by Eto'o. He will NOT be at barca next year and he's proven pace and quality. 1st choice striker

Other Additions - -

LB - Warnock hasnt beeen replaced yet and now aurelio is long-term - we will sign a left back
RM - we WILL sign another right midfielder with pace, no need to sell Pennant, he's good back-up

Keep - -
Hypia, Kuyt, Crouch all  have much to offer our squad

so theres not a lot to do in my opinion, I really see Eto'o as the answer to our problems up front. Villa will cost a ridiculous amount (even IF we have money). if eto'o cant be signed then Bent as my option B, charlton may still be relegated:D [/B]

p.s. i cannot believe somebody suggested Robben for my beloved liverpool. thats criminal

Yes Rafa-Dodd, he failed  in la Liga, but I wouldn't say miserably, he was too young year 2003, 19 years and Barcelona wasn't in their best moment neither. A good player may fail miserably in a club that has problems -- ask Mascherano. And he wasn't given the chance to play regularly

But is he a GREAT player? I haven't seen him live enough to tell (disclaimer), but I'd say no. You can smell a star of a great team even when they have a bad day, and Quaresma smelled like a star of a semi-big team, Porto, Sporting Lisboa, Tottenham, Atletico de Madrid, one of those.

When an away team visits your ground, you tend to focus your eyes in the oposition men that are messing your goal most. The players that cause more trouble. Owen was one of those, Cannavaro is a centre back that when playing the oposition can achieve you reach happy to the stadium and to get out frustrated, Alves, Deco, Villa, players like that.

Quaresma isn't one of those. Typical player that you can make a nice video of highlights with him when you want to sell him, but  inconsistent, irregular, and ball waster. Ball waster? like Luis Garcia, might people say. But Luis Garcia is one of those that is trying a lot of things all the 90 minutes and are a constant pain in the :censored: for the oposition. Quaresma is one of those that can hide below the grass.

But it's a nice player to make videos

Goal with the exterior part of the boot

In a nutshell, I haven't seen him enough, but I'm not sure he's going to be the panacea of the wingers.

For the stats lovers, this are his numbers in the last international championship of national squads

Apps 8   Assists 2
Minutes 691 ---   Off Sides 5
Goals 2   Fouls Committed 5    Fouls received 23

Shoots on goal 7

2 goals is not bad, but 7 shots on goal in 8 games isn't impressive neither. Portuguese league is a league you can see decent football but their pressure makes the life of players like Quaresma easier. When we see some videos we hurry to say that's better than what we already have but at this level sigining ups must be chosen carefully.

Fortunately we have Rafa for that, and not a PC football manager player. :)

what about:
Cisse
Pongolle

aren't they still on the books?

agree with the majority here:
Dudek - only if he wants to leave bad enough and we can get cover
Zenden

those are the only two i feel should leave, fowler as well, which is a shame.

Hyppia, gonzales (still think he has potential), pennant, bellamy, kewell, kuyt etc.... Only if we sign better/younger players.

Here's my stab. I've a feeling that those who are calling a couple of players leaving with no major names are in my view getting in wrong. I think there will be a bit of a clear out, with one or two big name surprises. Firstly the obvious.

Zenden-obviously because ... well it's just obvious and I personally wouldn't have signed him in the first place; obviously.
Harry Kewell-in the unlikely event of anybody offering any money for him we'd take it simply because of his injury record and as he has only a year left on his inflated contract. If they don't, expect him to leave by Christmas at the latest. Bolton is my prediction.
Peter Crouch-I'd keep him personally but I expect somebody to tempt Rafa with a big offer in the Summer, over 10 million. If they go towards 11.5 then I think Rafa will take the money and run for a player he ultimately doesn't really fancy in his heart of hearts. My prediction is Newcastle, or Everton.
Robbie Fowler and Dudek-it's a given as neither play and are on biggish contracts, forget the ish in the case of Dudek.

And the big surprise? I've got a hunch that Luis Garcia will go back to Spain for a decent fee. Forgive me as I haven't been keeping up with things recently so if he's just signed a new contract it doesn't necessarily mean I'm clueless, just probably. I've just a hunch he may go home, Deportivo is my guess.

Pennant, Bellamy and Gonzales will be given one more season. My own feeling is that out of the three only the middle one will ultimately make it at Liverpool. Gonzales is in my opinion simply not good enough and Pennant simply has too many issues going on inside his head to ever realise fully his undoubted potential. For this reason my suspicion is that neither will prosper.
Kuyt on the other hand will prove what a really good player that he is, and when he comes back Aurelio will continue to demonstrate what a good signing he was. As for the new signings, feck knows :p
