Its amazing how Pennant has had a couple of decent halfs (he hasnt and never looks like producing over 90 min) in the last month or so. And now he's regarded as one of our better performers, and sure people round he sing a different tune every other month, me included . :D

not me ..I think he's shi.te and his crossing is pi.ss poor.Add to that his temperament, terrible eating habits, runny nose, oral hygiene, flat feet, webbed toes, knocky knees and inability to get to the by-line on a regular basis, his future at Anfield is very much in doubt.

Finally. Thats what I've been trying to say all along.

If you were Rafa and had a warchest to spend in the summer would you :

a) Take a gamble in the transfer market and buy a right mid of your choice ?

or

b) Keep the money spend it elsewhere and start with Pennant as RM next season ?

(Dont worry about the midfield and the fact Gerrard can play RM if Mascha and Xabi play central just answer the question :D)

P.s there is no  c.

Keep the money and spend it elsewhere. IE left wing, two strikers and a centre half.

Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard, Pennant, Sissoko and Luis Garcia gives us immense quality and more than enough options to sort out the right side of midfield and the centre of midfield. For example... Lets say we signed Robben (class act).

Robben, Alonso, Mascherano, Gerrard

Robben, Alonso, Gerrard, Pennant

Robben, Mascherano, Gerrard, Pennant

Robben, Alonso, Sissoko, Gerrard

All of those midfields to me look very very strong. With the right two forwards infront of them we'd be a hell of a team. Tevez and Ashton in, Crouch and Kuyt out and possibly Bellamy out with another striker coming in. Still like Anelka.

The possibilities would be endless.

You'd have an immense balance aswell as different options and types of players. IE back to goal, goalscoring target man in Ashton, a player who works hard, drops off and runs with the ball in Tevez (who is similar to Rooney), and Anelka to provide pace, intelligence and flair.

Yes Pennant's the weakest link, but he's good enough to be part of the squad and thats certainly not a priority area for me.

Oh right. So how many times have you actually seen Quaresma play?

I'm getting a bit bored of this. Someone somewhere decides to mention Simao, then everyone thinks Its a great Idea, why has everyone gone quiet on this player all of a sudden?

Now its bloody fancy dan Quaresma who has possbily less vision than Baros.

:no

I don't think there's too much 'deadwood' to get rid of, especially since I think almost all players deserve more than one season to impress.

So, my list is short:

1) Zenden...surplus to requirements
2) Dudek...ditto
3) Fowler...I still would love to see Robbie with us next year but he's clearly out of favour and will certainly move on

That's it.  The rest have their uses, if only as squad players in some cases.  Now, should we bring in some top-class players (particular wide players and strikers) who settle straight away and clearly make us a better team, there will certainly be more players moved to the "surplus to requirements" list by mid-season.  If need be, some can be loaned out, others sold outright in January.  It's not like we need to sell in order to spend this summer, after all! :D

I haven't seen Quaresma play apart from the Champions League games for Porto. He seems ok but didn't he fail miserably in La Liga?

I aint so sure he is what we are looking for. Robben is a class act but I doubt he would want to come here and doubt even more that Chelsea would let him.
