just to let everyone know why the increase in advertising:

Hi SS,

Wanted to drop you a quick line about the additional advertising on the site, obviously as I am sure you will realise I am looking at ways to raise a little more money which will help with the running costs of the site.

The site is doing well with a good steady growth in membership and regular users which has always been the aim however this in itself is the reason I need to find ways of funding.

The forums database alone is almost a half a Gigabyte in size and the site statistics for the month of July show that the site had 3251 visits a day totalling 100,811 Visits in the month who viewed 1,297,974 Pages this used 26,852,822 Kbytes of data transfer/bandwidth. It is the size of the site and the bandwidth that are costing a fair amount now each month.

I'm sure the additional advertising will not be very well received however as said there is a need to raise some funds to help with the running costs of the site.

If you or any of the membership can think of other ideas to raise regular ongoing revenue I am very much open to suggestions and would happily reduce/remove the ads if alternatives ideas can be found.

Anyway wanted to keep you up-to-date, let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

Kind Regards,

Chris

Thanks for that Jon.

It's got me thinking about whether there is any real benefit in having a large membership as it increases bandwidths and therefore cost and whether thought could be given to charging for membership of this site ?

It would certainly curtail people coming onto the site touting tickets, E-Bayers after a quick buck, idiots, porn link merchants, WUM's etc......

The site could then maybe afford to be a bit more selective in who they allow to advertise on the site.

Just a thought lad and maybe theres no mileage in my proposal but I would certainly pay to use the site and I'm sure otheres would too..

Sonds liek a decent idea to me like.

Although you really dont wanna end up like KRAPTALK.

Maybe the option of beinlg a forum supporter ?

Not sure how much it would cost over 12months, but I reckon you could get a fair few on here willing to pay for becoming a forum supporter.

Maybe this could include something like access to certain things/areas of the forum ?

I'll speak to LFC Leon.  A good plan.  I'd donate a couple of quid every year if it helped out.  The hosting costs must be mental.

Maybe a special Forum Supporters Area could be set up to enable certain discussion and decisions regarding the forum and its running and overall set up could be put to the members who have taken the chance to contribute.

I reckon tenner a pop should get you at least 20 people so thats £200 quid towards the cost . .

And then I could sign up with ten other members as alias names, pay with all of them and then demand they make leonmc0708 a moderator, and with a majority vote there would be no stopping my plans for world domination......

aren't all the ads just fed to the site by google ad syndication or something similar? in other words rundle signs up for a package which feeds ads that google think are appropriate for a footy site, but rundle doesn't actually hand pick them?

either way i barely notice them any more, they may as well not be there. i'm not sure about paying a subscription fee though. i'd personally be happy to but we'd lose out on a lot of good new members; joe bloggs googles "lfc forum" and he's presented with here for a fee or rawk/koptalk etc for nowt, he's gonna go with the free option

i reckon some kind of cooling off process is a more workable way of keeping the loons away - they register but then have to wait say 24hrs before they can post, by which time their ip address could maybe get checked against a list of known bad 'uns? (maybe this would be an admin nightmare, dunno not a techie but if there's an automated way of doing it?)

failing that we need a tough mod who can come on at night and not be afraid to issue immediate bans and.....     oh wait let's not go there :D

Woollyback is right IMHO in the part that I've highlighted -- not that the not highlighted part is not right.

I was favouring to make a donation, I'm asked money for things that do not give me so much fun, and I'm ready to help for that, it's well worth the money that cost some beers.

Dalglish: Fair enough, I'll pay in pounds. :D

The key is thats its not compulsary, but voluntary.

If you dangle a decent enough carrot you will get at least 25-30 willing to throw in the £10-£20.
