In those little boxes above the first 3 posts in a thread, strangely I never even notice them anymore.

I dont get that. I get the ads above the part where it tells you how many people are reading the thread, but not above the posts. I did get them before I got my Norton Anti Virius into my laptop, but since then it has stopped.

I can stop getting them by using my adstopper but after a few posts it crashes my comp for some reason, so I just ignore them instead.

Thanks for the clarification Leon.

Although football had sold it's soul a long time ago I'm somewhat surprised that the Forum have allowed these ads to be accessible from this site.

I don't know the ins and outs of why they choose to do this although obviously the site is free and they have to raise revenue from somewhere but I'm sure there are better and more ethical sites which might be interested in sponsoringh the site ?

Just makes you wonder who pays these silly prices though Leon ............ Japanese ? :D

Touts would be out of business tomorrow if people refused to pay over the odds.

I sometimes have a spare ticket available as theres a group of us who go and it's not always possible for some to make every game but I wouldn't dream of flogging it over the odds.

I'm no MOD but perhaps when you become one you can delve a little deeper and find out why the Forum deems it necessary to allow these types of ads etc .... :D

This is a PM published by Supersub that he had received from LFC last August 21st 2006.  The original can be found in the pinned Adverts topic in General Chat.

just to let everyone know why the increase in advertising:

Hi SS,

Wanted to drop you a quick line about the additional advertising on the site, obviously as I am sure you will realise I am looking at ways to raise a little more money which will help with the running costs of the site.

The site is doing well with a good steady growth in membership and regular users which has always been the aim however this in itself is the reason I need to find ways of funding.

The forums database alone is almost a half a Gigabyte in size and the site statistics for the month of July show that the site had 3251 visits a day totalling 100,811 Visits in the month who viewed 1,297,974 Pages this used 26,852,822 Kbytes of data transfer/bandwidth. It is the size of the site and the bandwidth that are costing a fair amount now each month.

I'm sure the additional advertising will not be very well received however as said there is a need to raise some funds to help with the running costs of the site.

If you or any of the membership can think of other ideas to raise regular ongoing revenue I am very much open to suggestions and would happily reduce/remove the ads if alternatives ideas can be found.

Anyway wanted to keep you up-to-date, let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

Kind Regards,

Chris

Big forum, that must be very expensive. Plus in this site there's not limit to post pics. whenever we put a pic, the system goes, takes the pic, and shows it in the forum, which means that in the case of forums pics take much bandwidth, more than houndreds of posts of pure text. (if you put a link to the pic though, it's your browser who does the job and the forum isn't used as vehicle)

And that kind of hosting is very expensive, so I have to be understanding. The nature of the adverts though, well, you know better than me about if that's right or no. Just wanted to make a remark about the expense of this kind of huge forum.
