Before we had the money i wouldn't have minded cashing in on him to be fair because we have sissoko and mascherano as well as super steve but now we have the money the team is only goin to get better and their is a league title coming our way in the next 3 years so thier is no reason for him to leave imo

Alonso is a very very good player, and a player i like a lot but he is not by any means one we cannot replace!
Im happy if he stays as he offers a lot although below par this season he has shown his worth before.

The thing is though our club is in a different place next season than it has been before.....We will be in position that we can let very good players go and bring in better ones to fill their place. The money will be available to do this for the first time!

If Alonso wants away it puts Raffa in a very good position because he will only be going to Spain.Raffa has a lot of respect and contacts there..we can use Alonso to bring in more quality,it would'nt annoy me one bit if it benefits LFC.

I hope it does'nt come to that but it aint the end of the world if he goes..far from it!

I think Alonso is fantastic, by him leaving it will make the liverpool squad weaker.
You say we can replace him but who with.

I thought he was appalling at the start of the season, but as the season has worn on he's shown his importance more and more.

If we were skint and needed to sell to bring in wingers and a striker, I'd reluctantly say that Alonso was a player we could just about afford to lose, particularly now that we have Mascherano.

But we're not skint, we're not a selling club and the guy is class. Unless someone comes in with world-beating money I don't think Rafa would even give an offer a second glance.

He does need to get his consistency together though. When his passing is off and he gets a cheap yellow card early on in a game, he can look incredibly ordinary. Against Man U the other week though he was exceptional.

Yes got to agree with you there, as you talk about Mascherano i think he will be a great player for the future and we might have him playing even better next seaseon once he gets to grip with the premiership.

Also after watching the game against villa i think that proved that Mascherano and sissoko can't play together in the centre

Proved after 1 game mate? :D

I'd say its a bit too early to judge...agreed they did'nt play well together that day. That does not mean they can't in the future though.

As for Alonso.im not saying i want him out..not by any means! What i mean is we will be in a position in the near future to let good players go if they wish because we may be able to attract better!

C/M is probably the position with the biggest number of quality players in Europe. They are a lot easier to get than say a quality left winger or right winger for that matter.Im not saying they are 10 a penny, just that there are quite a few about!

Maybe Barca would swap for Deco??

Agree with that.

I like Alonso, his attitude, his reading of the game, his range of passing - for me, his value to us was never clearer than that away game with Juve in the 2005 CL run, he was the man.

But although other players have been under par this season, he just isn't doing enough for me - there aren't enough killer balls and nowhere near enough goals from someone deployed as an attacking CM - although i take the point that Rafa tends to play him too deep sometimes.

Basically, we need two out and out wingers this close season, which leaves 2 central midfielders - and that's Stevie plus one from Masch, Sissoko and Alonso. Great if they're happy to be rotated, but it wouldn't surprise me if Alonso left in the next season or two.

If he did i'd wish him well and miss him, but he isn't irreplaceable. In the past, we've let good players go when their replacements can improve the team - it may not be a question of any lack of quality in Alonso, just that maybe we need a different type of player.

I know its only one game, I thought they both played good and done there job.
But both of them are defensive players, and need alonso or gerrard next to them.

I love Alonso!  How can we replace that player, who can score from in his own half!
Oh Gerro we love you

Attacking CM?!!!!!! ????? This is a player who had the 2nd most tackles in the premiership last season and about as many again this season. Alonso might be able to play the killer pass but he is essentially a Defensive Midfielder and has been since he arrived at the club.

It's his natural position. At least since he was 15. He's a defensive midfielder.

Besides the fact that Alonso's one of our classiest players and besides the fact that he does a lot of the unsung work that make our team tick...I'm not interested in selling Alonso because having four quality central midfielders is a necessity given that CMs are prone to pick up knocks and cards over the course of a season.  Strength in depth, people...strength in depth.

I'm open minded, and I'm ready to accept different opinions. But I'd like to read more in depth reasons from those who say Alonso is below par this season. I read it often, but I'd like an explanation.

From my point of view the lad has grown a lot as a player the last 3 seasons, that's why I ask.
