Hope there is truth in this but really doubt it myself. The guy is class, and in terms of technical ability is well ahead of anything we have.

Crouch/Berbatov Swap?

Berbatov is quality, I said last summer when Tottenham and United were sniffing around him that we should stick a bid in.  He's since proven to be a hit in the premiership.

However, our prime target this summer has to be a pacy striker to play alongside Kuyt who will get 20+ goals.  Berbatov isn't quick and he isn't an out-and-out goalscorer, but if we were somehow able to swap him for Crouch I'd be interested.  We'd still need to find an out-and-out goalscorer on top of that though.

I would have Berbatov anyday at Liverpool. Great player and seems to bag them in for fun at the moment

Berbatov is not the quickest but is no slouch either. I've watched him a number of times this season and his movement and awareness of what is round him is excellent. Technically better then any of our strikers. There are plenty of pacy strikers out there, but finding ones who have much more in their armoury than just pace is difficult (i.e Henry, Drogba). Would take a striker with intelligent movement and brilliant touch over a hit and run merchant any day of the week. I think we have missed the boat with Berbatov personally. One of E'to/Villa would be great. Word is Chelsea are very interested in Villa, so that maybe one we miss out on. Torres is poacher and very good one at that. Have my doubts as to whether he would succeed in the EPL though.

If someone does't go in for him this season and he keeps up that scoring record his price is gonna fly up. The prem is one of the hadest to score in if you can do it in the prem you can do it anywere get him now while it he will cost say 15-17 mil and not 22-25mil

15-17 million is not going to to it. Spurs are one of these strange clubs who don't even usually get into the Uefa cup and still manage to spend big and don't have to sell players. I could only see us getting him this summer if he had say 1-2 years left on his contract and asked to leave, or if we went in with a 20-25 million offer which would be crazy and something we would not do. Time to get him in was last summer.

Well and truly flavour of the month at this point.  It's funny, every few months these boards clamour for another Spurs striker.  Berbatov has now replaced Defoe.  Before that it was Mido and before that Keane.  But I just don't see it.

First off, Spurs won't sell him for anything less than silly money (a la the Manc bid for Carrick) which we will never offer.  Second of all, let's see if he can keep up the pace, shall we?  Mido looked a great prospect this time last year but has since faded significantly (and drifted off people's wishlist as a result).  Most importantly, I think John Craig's spot on when he says Berbatov's quality but not exactly what we need.

This story wouldnt have anything to do with Berbatov's agent trying to negotiate a better contract for his player would it?

Whether its Berbatov or whoever, I keep saying Crouch will go in the summer.

I agree about Crouch St Mike, I think his time's just about up at Anfield.  We got 2 decent seasons out of him and despite the stick he got he's a good player, but basically he misses too many easy chances to be a first choice striker for Liverpool.  I think we'll make a profit on him too, we should get at least 9 million imo.  Bought him for 7 mil 2 years ago and since then he's become an established International player so there's no way we'll make a loss on him.

I don't think there's seriously anything in this Berbatov/Crouch swap deal to be honest.  When Crouch does go, expect O'Neill to try and take him to Villa and Roeder to try and tempt him up North.  I'd also expect him to fall way down the pecking order for England when he leaves us too, half the reason he gets picked is because he plays regularly for a top 4 side.

agree with the crouch and berbatov points.

Its a shame in a way and you gotta feel a bit sorry for crouch as although he misses a lot of chances he also scores his fair share (and a couple of spectacular ones) and is still our top goal scorer in all competitions dispite playing less games than Kuyt or Bellers (and yes I know both are new to the club, have to have time to settle in and both will improve).

Its funny before the Barca game a few of their supporters were saying they feared Crouch just because he was difficult to play against. You don't really think about teams not really knowing how to deal with a player like crouch, but it happens.

But yes, I think its time we moved onwards and upwards and got a perfect strike partner for Kuyt.

I would love to see Berbatov at LFC, he's had a fantastic season at Spurs.
He seems to have a lot going for him and is great to watch at times. He's skillful, can score, has had loads of assists and works his balls off.
The one thing he lacks is pace, but to be a good player does not mean you have to be fast.

Theres no doubt hes been a great signing for Jol.....and thats the main reason i dont think he'll be easy to get...deffo not for Crouch anyway!!
