Last summer ShanklyGates.co.uk made a list of all the players allegedly linked with Liverpool, and by the start of the season they had more than 300!

This summer they could top 500!

There are reports coming from Spain that Benetiz has contacted Malaga about signing four of their players, former Barcelona player Angell being the most prominant of the 4. However, it could be that Malaga are trying to put their players in the shop window as they know Benetiz has money to spend and will be looking closely at La Liga.

The other prominant rumours relate to Baraja and Xabi Alonso. The Sun  :D  claim that Baraja was offered to Houllier two months ago but Houllier rejected the move saying that Baraja and Gerrard couldn't play together. Xabi Alonso is a rising star in Spain but has his heart set on Madrid.

Now that Benetiz and Valencia are suing the pants off of each other I'd say that its unlikely Valencia will do business with us.

After the Euro, there is still the Copa America. Will he be looking there as well? :;):

if he looks at the south Americans then i think he would be looking for one of those very creative flare type player who deffenses will just not know what to do with.

But who could he look at.

South American have not fared all too well in the hustle and bustle of the Premiership with a very few exceptions. and Juninho has been a revelation, Gilberto and Edu at Arsenal have done well and Juan Pablo Angel has come good after taking time to settle .

With that scenario and the fact that we have not had any, do you think we should go that route? They are technically more accomplished but can they adapt and settle down and do we have the time to let them settle? Generally the Liverpool fans are a patient lot and perhaps with Benitez who has experienced handling and getting the best out of the latins, we can unearth some bargains from South America.

look at tino Asprilla he was awsome for Newcastle and defeces had no idea what to expect as he was such a loose player. That kind of unpredictability is what i am after. Obviously the south americans have it but if we can find someone european that may help the settling in process but i don't care where they are from as long as they can do it out on the park.

It's a bit closed-minded to think that because someone's South American they're not going to be cut out for life in the Premiership. Obviously someone like Ronaldo or Ronaldinho could walk in and light up stadiums without a second thought, and I'm sure that there are players in the leagues over there that aren't just cut from the "attack-minded flair player" cloth that could be a real asset to clubs over here. For instance, someone like Juninho has always had a bit of graft about his game, while some players - like Angel - had to have it foisted upon them. He didn't want to know about defensive duties until O'Leary gave him a kick up the chuff.

South American players have been no different to any other country though really in terms of settling into the Premiership - Diouf and Diao are hardly a great advert for African imports, and we'd be here all day making a list of all the European wastes of space.

It all boils down to the fact the obvious point that some players are individuals, and some are team players. Some sink, some swim, and many just sit out an entire season before being moved on after a couple of poor games. Whatever happened to Tony Yeboah for example? He was seemingly the best player in Europe for about a month and then completely disappeared. Same with Asprilla - it was like he had a terminally ill twin brother filling in for him every other week. I don't think too many Newcastle fans even noticed he'd been sold in the end.
