Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I heard from somewhere (cant remember where) Ramos was sent off 4 times last season. For me Riise's best position is left mid. He played well there against Barca and if he gets a chance then more often that not he'll work the keeper.

Ramos is a great prospect as a defender, as he is only about 20 years old. I believe he is right-sided and/or central defender though, so wouldn't change anything about our left side of the defence. That being said, I don't think Riise is nearly as bad, as some people make him out to be (not great either though.... somewhere in between)

Ooops my bad!!! Getting him mixed up although doesn't Bravo start on the left for Madrid?

apology accepted.

I believe so Scottbot. He is not a first team regular though, and I seem to remember the Madrid crowd booing him (Raul Bravo) on a couple of occasions, when he has actually played (but then again... they are some of the most fickle fans around aren't they?!) Anyway - no harm done, just wanted to point it out. Let's just wait and see what Rafa has in store for us next season. We probably haven't seen the best of Fabio Aurelio yet either, what with him being injured for so many spells of this season.

What was that for? I was just giving my opinion on Riise. If you are wondering why I mentioned that, I have quite a crush on Riise, it’s the bisexual elements of me coming to light, I like men and in particular John Arne Riise. Apologies in advance for taking things off topic.

Oh Dear we have another comedian in the house.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Your sexual preferences have precisely no place in a thread in the Liverpool discussion section of the board.  Talk football or get to f.uck.

Just to cover my own back for a second, I know IP addresses can change and match etc... but it's surely no co-incidence that every member who logs on with the same IP address as that Swindon guy is a tit.

You never get normal people on that IP address.

So apologies to genuine people who may have the misfortune to be assigned the same ISP as all the knob jockey members we get on here.  Cause I'm just going to keep banning members on that IP address who show the smallest sign of misbehaving.

As those members who keep coming back for more know only too well, I can do this ALL DAY.  As soon as I see you're back, I'll boot you right off again.

The Riise Debate.

If you would of asked me at the start of the season about Riise, I would of said, actually I did say:

Murph,

When this debate first came up a while ago I thought you were being a bit harsh on JAR, he has scored some important goals for us and I never looked too much into his shortcomings. However after that I thought I would take a look at him this year and the first match he was awful. He never ran at his man all game and his passing was on par with Salif Diao. He made a few mistakes and seemed to never get into the game properly. Sitting there I was actually saying to me mate , that we should look into buying that Mussaudi( their no.10). He was taking the pi$$ out of JAR all game. However there was a worse player on the park in Bolo and I think this contributed to JAR's performance as many times he had two men running at him.

Riise has been a loyal servant to this club and is our fittest member of the squad. He has scored some important goals and has generally Liverpool through and through. I think this added competition will bring the best out of Riise, his form over the past 4 years has been up and down, one good season follows a bad one and last year, he was steady. I hope John knuckles down and  proves to us all what he is all about.

Good Luck John,

I always thought Riise was nailed on to start every game in our back four. He chips in with goals, and was part of the defence that went on a recording breaking run of clean sheets. He was virtually a guarenteed first teamer. However as I noticed in the first game of the season against Maccabi, his postional sense this season has been poor. You could put it down to him being very attacking minded, but some of the mistakes he has made this year have been school boy errors. Its seems Riises indifferent form continues (one good year, one bad year). He was awful at times this season and I have been seriously questioning his ability to keep hold of the left back slot. I thought the added competion of Aurelio would bring out the best in Riise, much like Josemi did for Finnan, but Aurelio had his own problems - settling in, injuries etc.

I fully expect Aurelio to have a much better season next year. His passing and crossing is superb, probably one of the best in the squad for his distribution and in some games has looked the part ( see Chelsea (H) ). Rafa obviously knows him well from his Valencia days and I think he may be a little gem next year. Rafa could even bring in a left back as Riise has been the weakest link this year on many occasions. However I am not writing John off just yet.

Against Barcelona, Riise was immense in left midfield and to be honest if I was manager thats where I would play Riise every game. He's good enough attacking wise, he can pass, run, cross and shoot and his defending skills would make the team a whole lot stronger if he was LM. With Gonzo there the LB is often exposed. Riise, being a LB for a lot of his career knows the score and brings much needed balance to the side. Last year we had Kewell there and the balance between the attack and defence was brilliant, we just couldn't score. I know we are experiencing a similar problem this year, but earlier on in the season we were very shaky and the balance was not there, its improved but as we saw against Barca home and away, Riise on the left of midfield makes us look a lot better and a lot stronger.

Where do you see Riise next year?
