Gerrard staying on is like a new... - ...signing

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Bring Dalglish back » Tue Jun 29, 2004 8:59 am

After England's defeat in Euro 2004, the news that Steven Gerrard is committing his future to Liverpool, sure cheered me up.

His devotion for the club is like Benitez signing a new world class player.

I know Steve had a bad tournament, but we are all aware of what the lad is capable of. I just hope that Owen follows suit and, like Gerrard, commits his future or, at least, immediate future to the reds.

I dont get to read the english papers anymore being in malaysia, but i read on liverpoolfc.tv that The Mail is saying that gerard is staying because of threats made to his family from liverpool supporters.

I would expect that from a tabloid, the press have got it wrong now for weeks so they should just accept that he's staying because his heart is in the club.

Last nite i watched a dvd again, the history of Liverpool Football Club, its great to see the pride people used to have to play for us, lets hope thats back soon

Why don't Chelsea just buy the FA Premiership trophy??

That's what they are practically doing anyway.

They have about eight players for every position on the football field.

And they wanted Gerrard too???

Apparently, Jose Mourinho is wanting to drastically cut the number of players in his squad. Doesn't seem like it to me. Everyday I hear about a new player been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Hasselbank on a free ??? If the wages were right I'd bite his arm off.
Never liked him , never looks like he enjoys life, has that constant sulk on his gob.
BUT ! I would've swapped him for Heskey any day of the week.
The guy can score. :)

If you think though, ever since around 1995, a lot of Premiership clubs have tried to buy the trophy.

When Jack Walker was the chairman at Blackburn, he invested loads of money into Dalglish's team and they were successful.

For a football club to have a lot of money these days, it certainly helps, which is why I was keeping my fingers crossed with the Thai PM investment.

Saw something on teletext over the weekend.
Apparently Arsenal made a late bid for Gerrard (did anyone know about it ? )
They are now stating that they will try again next year.
Is this saga ever going to end ? :(

As far as i am concerned if Gerrard wanted to go then they should have let him.
Eversince he has stayed at the club LFC have been made to look like muppets everyday since,If Stevie did do all the running to chelski trying to sell himself like some bloody hooker behind the clubs backs then WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING KEEPING THE TWO FACED B******?.Sorry people my minds gone wondering i do not mean disrespect to anybody but iam fed up with this ******.
The last thing we need going into the new season is all this gossip surounding the club and the season has not even started and thay are already talking about what is going to happen next season.
I can't help thinking that parry has been taken for a ride, He should not beg anybody to stay ala Owen/Gerrard bieng LFC captain and player is an honer and if it is REALLY in your HEART then you should not talk like you want to fight the fight.  :( :( ???

Well, he is staying on. But have you ever seen anyone so miserable at a press conference as he was that day.

I give him another year. I still think that he'll go.

“I made the right decision to stay at Liverpool. It was a combination of my family, of having been here all my life, of being the captain and of leading them. My family were telling me about the fans and what the reaction was even when I was still away at Euro 2004. I’m aware of how much it means to them. I don’t mean that in a big-headed way but I just realised the importance of it and it was the fans who persuaded me to stay. I’ve made the decision and I know it’s the right one.”
"There’s no hiding that it was a difficult summer for me. I am just looking forward now and I want my future to be with Liverpool. When I was a kid the only dream I ever had was of wearing the captain’s armband with Liverpool and of going up to pick up a trophy. That’s all I want to do now.”
"This season is a fresh start for everyone under the new manager and so far I have been very impressed with him.
"The manager spoke to us as soon as we reported back and he stressed that we have to concentrate on each game. He said we have to think about winning the next game and not set ourselves targets we then fail to achieve. That is what happened to us last season.
"Now the target is the next game but there is no question we need a huge improvement and to be serious challengers from the first day of the new season. Djibril will help us a lot in that respect.
"I understand the manager's point and appreciate it, but deep down we know it is always going to be about winning trophies. That's the bottom line."
