well bookies go 2/7 that he leaves and 5/2 that he stays

also 8/11 that bellamy leaves and evens that he stays

personally i thnk robbie will go, but not bellamy. id like fowler to stay but he needs football, so maybe america is the right way for him to go before he comes back to us to coach

I will always remember that night in 1993 when I got back from the match when my housemate asked me the score. "5-0" I replied. "Nice one" he said. "Did that young lad score" "Fowler, yeah" "How many?" he said. "All of em Dave" "but I thought you said it was 5-0?"  "Yeah, it was !"

And so a magical part of my life began.

Rafa-Dodd lists some great memories there, the hat-trick against Arsenal ( 4 and a half mins actually Steve not 10) when us Kop Season ticket holders had to finally sit down on seats, the winner in the second 4-3 against the Geordies,The great goal against Brann Bergen in the Ecru kit, the Dockers T- Shirt, the great "open my cheeks" wall he made for a Le Saux free kick, the "line sniffing" against Everton, his goal against Alaves which I still to this day wished had been the winner and the stunning overhead free kick against Charlton which would eventually secure champions league football for 2001-2002.

There are many more memories, too great to list on a football forum. I remeber Didi being sent off against Sunderland at Anfield and Robbie being taken off at half time in order to do a tactical change and being secretly worried that we would never see him again. This was to prove to be true (for 5 years anyway)

I really feel that a part of Robbie died that day and he never quite did the business for Leeds or Man City in my view as his heart was never in it enough.

The day that "God returned" made me feel like a kid at christmas again and I was so excited in a way that cant be described unless you have felt it yourself. I also remember Rafa-Dodd phoning me to tell me and him saying "this is one of the best days of my life."

The first game back against Birmingham when he was so unlucky for his "goal" to be ruled out hurt but we all knew he would score again given the chance.

The last 12 months have been great, with me listening intently to the team sheet and "willing" Robbie to be on it more than he has been. My heart now wants him to stay for ever but if I am really honest, the legs cant keep up anymore. His mind is still there as the coolness of 2 penalties and the great lay off for the last goal on Saturday showed but the game is too fast now and i think the end is near.

When he went last time I always secretly hoped that the door would be open for a return but the next departure will be final and I will probably shed a tear.

In a world of football where emotion and loyalty are being replaced by money, money and money, Robert Bernard Fowler is one of the last of his kind - a boy who wants to play football and loves his team (still amazing when you think he was an Evertonian) and if this season is to be the last then we should all savour every game.

I remember Middlesbrough in 1996 for the final game of Rushies career thinking how lucky we had been to see such a great striker. If Liverpool V Charlton on May 13th is to finally be the end of this ride then it should be enjoyed by all (he had better be in the team)

Robbie Fowler has played a huge part in my life and I fear that with his passing at the end of this season, part of me will die too

Fowler makes his case for new deal at Anfield

Dominic Fifield
The Guardian

Robbie Fowler has outlined his case for a new contract at Liverpool insisting that, at 31, he still has plenty to offer in the Premiership despite the Merseysiders signing the Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin for next season.

The former England forward scored two penalties against Sheffield United on Saturday to take his season's tally to seven goals despite enduring a bit-part role at Anfield that has seen him start only three matches in the Premiership. His one-year deal expires in the summer and no talks have taken place with Rafael Benítez over the possibility of extending the striker's second spell at the club.

"I know it's all a bit up in the air at the moment," said Fowler. "I've not spoken to anyone about the future and, to be honest, I'm still just focusing on enjoying every minute I'm at Liverpool. I'll sit down with people and think about next season when the time's right but, although I'm not the youngest player at the club, I'm not that old either. I still feel I've a few years left in me yet and I'll be carrying on for longer.

"Some people have mentioned moving into coaching and I even saw a move to the United States mentioned, but I honestly haven't even thought about anything like that yet. I still think I've a lot to contribute as a player and I'm just focused on playing as much as I can between now and the end of this season. There's a lot to play for."

Fowler's future has been placed under more doubt by the imminent arrival of Voronin, who has signed a four-year deal and will arrive under the Bosman ruling from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. The 27-year-old has had spells in Germany with Cologne, Mainz and Borussia Möenchengladbach and boasts 40 caps for his country, but has scored only five international goals.

If Benítez does not sell Craig Bellamy following the alleged golf club incident at the side's training camp in Portugal - and the Liverpool manager has distanced himself from such suggestions - Voronin will become the Merseysiders' fourth striker.

Benítez initially gave Fowler a six-month contract and then extended that by a year last summer. But it is unlikely similar sentiment will come into his plans for the future now that he has been promised a sizeable transfer kitty by the club's new American owners.

I very much doubt that Pongolle will be coming back, although i think he is a useful sub.
He said a few naughty things when he went on loan and probably doesnt fancy sitting on the bench most of the time.

It wouldnt be a massive shock if the boss sold Crouch though, although i would feel really sorry for the lad, in the bigger games he has preferred Kuyt to play a similar role.

from bbc sport:

New England Revolution coach Steve Nicol has held talks with former Liverpool team-mate Robbie Fowler about a move to the United States.
The 31-year-old striker is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and his future is uncertain.

Nicol said: "At the moment the first thing is the financial side.

"We've spoken, but as of yet there's nothing been settled. He's really just dipping his foot in the water here. It's something he's thinking about."

Fowler's hopes of extending his Anfield career have been threatened by the arrival of Andriy Voronin from Bayer Leverkusen.

Nicol, who played with Fowler at Liverpool in the early 90s, said: "He's getting his ducks in a row. Whether he gets a contract at Liverpool or whether he moves on, he's dipping his foot in the water."

The Revolution have been one of the most consistent teams in MLS in recent seasons, reaching the cup final in each of the last two seasons, only to suffer defeats at the hands of the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2005 and the Houston Dynamo last season.

However, with the departure of key man Clint Dempsey to Fulham in January, Nicol knows there is a need to rebuild, and he has some money from that deal to invest in wages.

Nicol - who fended off a $1m offer from Celtic for midfielder Shalrie Joseph this winter - is in a strong position to make an impact signing using the designated player slot, the mechanism which allowed LA Galaxy to sign David Beckham on a contract that could be worth up to $250m in salary and endorsements over five years.

"Through the sale of Clint we have some money available," he said.

"But the problem we have is that, because of the type of money David Beckham has got, a lot of people think everybody has that kind of money which is not the case.

BBC have updated their story with the following...

Agent plays down Fowler US switch

Robbie Fowler's agent has played down reports linking the Liverpool striker with a move to the United States.

Fowler, 31, is out of contract in the summer and New England Revolution coach Steve Nicol says he has spoken to the former England frontman about a move.

But Fowler's agent George Scott told BBC Radio Five Live: "He has not had a conversation with Steve and I don't think they could afford him anyway.

"If he was to think about moving, Qatar or Dubai could be an option."

What a video that is.  It hurts me to say but Fowlers playing days at this club are over after this season.  One thing I would love the club to offer Fowler is a coaching role.  I think the kids at the club would benefit from Fowler.  I dont think Fowler will want to take up a coaching role up so soon as I have heard him say in the last couple of days that he thinks theres more playing years ahead of him.   Sadly they wont be with us.

Fowler will be going this summer but dont rule him making another return in the not so distant future.

There's still that "what if" factor for me. If Bellamy gets suspended, or injuries hit, there may yet be another twist in the tail.

Let's face it, with Robbie Fowler, things have never exactly followed the script in the way you'd expect them to. :p

This Voronin deal really does intrigue me. On the one hand you think, yeah, he'll be the fourth striker. But then the guys only 4 years younger than Fowler, has nothing like the goalscoring pedigree, and - as others have stated - he may actually have been signed as a right mid.

Absolutely awesome video link that, by the way. Utterly phenomenal stuff in there. :D

Playing football in the MLS is so beneath Robbie Fowler it is actually funny. The standard of football over there is brutal, The players are either has-beens or not good enough to play on any other continent. I dont think it would suit the great man at all. And we all know money isnt an issue with him unlike Golden balls..Its hard to know what will happen as regards a contract for Robbie. I cant see him in a coaching role, despite the fact that everyone says that he is an incredibly positive influence around the club, the abilities that Robbie has cant be thought. He was born with it.
Maybe Im being sentimental but I dont think Rafa has written Robbie off for another season so who knows, all I can say is there is a hell of a lot of pressure on any player who is bought to replace Robbie....You cant replace God!

Robbie fowler should move on next season like ive said before i love the man he was my hero and my god before the nickname was given to him, but we all need to stop living in the past at this club in more ways than one respect and be proud of what we have achieved but dont live in the past, he isnt the same fowler(atleast not on the pitch) we need to sign a new fowler if you like.
Atleast this time he will get chance to say goodbye

thanks for the memories but ewven his pal redknapp said he couldn't play at top level no more. Good luck wherever you go. I think he should pack in playing and take his coaching badges and teach youths at lfc o how to finish.

I don't know why people have this sentimental feeling that Robbie should go into coaching at Liverpool. Firstly ask yourself would he want to? He is one of the richest footballlers in the country and has property all over the world. He is raking it in from his deals outside football more than he is making playing for us, probably. Also with all this money do you think he will want to be getting up coming into Melwood to teach a bunch of kids how to put the ball into the back of the net?

Secondly - wheres all his coaching badges!?! Robbie is not interested in any coaching badges yet as he still believes he has got a few more years in him, he wants to play football, let him play somewhere where he can make a difference.

Thirdly - would Rafa have him on his backroom staff? Rafa is very melticulous and likes every thing planned out etc. Is this Robbies style? I don't think so. I much as I love Robbie, he has got no self-displine and is not exactly a true professional.

Lets be thankful for what God gave us over the years and not try and make him what he's not.
