Smicer and the saints - Smicer

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby RED BEERGOGGLES » Tue Jun 29, 2004 1:23 am

Southampton are understood to have formally offered Liverpool £1.5m for Czech international midfielder Vladimir Smicer.

According to several sources, Smicer is aware of the offer, but is wanting to discover whether he has a future at the Anfield giants once a new manager is appointed.

Smicer, 31, has one year left on his current contract, but many believe it is unlikely the player, currently with the Czech Republic's squad preparing for Euro 2004, will be offered an extension at Anfield.

Smicer has had a mixed time at Anfield showing flashes of undoubted quality but has been plagued by niggling injuries and phases of inconsistency.

He was signed by former boss Gerard Houllier in the summer of 1999 from French club Lens to replace Real Madrid bound Steve McManaman.

comments anyone ? :D  :D

I think this says it all :D

Not close to half the player manaman was, and not really a vital member of our squad.
Let him go.

£1.5 is not bad money for a 31 year old :D

Smicer has had his moments but far too few for a player at this level.

Adios :D

as a 31 years old player, his ability won't improve. We're not gonna see a new smicer. But, maybe we should seek for at least 2£?

Only 1 year left on his contract, we might as well get what we can for him now.

yeah but look at Mcmanaman now though he has faded very fast from what he once was.

We shyould take the money and run. He scored the odd goal when we needed him too but he was so inconsistant that you had no idea if he was going to have a good half let alone a good game. :D

Maybe we should keep him as squad player but he got 1 more year left...but I think it is best for let him to go for that price which is good for 31 year old.
