"GERRARD SET TO STAY AT LIVERPOOL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool are expected to confirm that England midfielder Steven Gerrard is to stay at Anfield at a press conference at 3pm today.
Gerrard has been linked with a £30million move to Chelsea and only last week Stamford Bridge chief executive Peter Kenyon admitted his club would like to sign the Anfield skipper if he became available.

The 24-year-old was the powerhouse behind Liverpool last season.

The arrival of new coach Raphael Benitez from Valencia appears to have convinced Gerrard that Liverpool can once again challenge for the game's top honours."

You never no. Perhaps some Russian Mafia guy wants to inject millions into the club.

Then we could buy Duff and Lampard as well.

errard: I stay Jun 28 2004

Liverpool Echo

STEVEN GERRARD is to stay at Liverpool.

The captain (right) has turned down the chance of a money-spinning move to Chelsea to remain at Anfield and spearhead the club's assault on honours under new boss Rafael Benitez.

Huyton-born Gerrard had been offered around £120,000 per week to move to Stamford Bridge, where he was being wooed by new manager Jose Mourinho via Roman Abramovich's millions.

His commitment to the club, which is thought to have come after he had a major change of heart over the weekend, was being announced at a press conference at Anfield this afternoon.

His decision marks another success for chief executive Rick Parry and the Liverpool board.

hes stayin u beauti :D

I was wrong. I thought he was leaving. In fact Stevie himself admitted that he was seriously contemplating leaving for Chelsea...was he was confused?? :D  The exact background on why he choose to stay we might never know, but I am glad he stayed.
Now to add another 2~3 top class players and time to toss out the garbage. Game on...

I'm just waiting for a certain member to come here looking for his ton from JohnBull and start calling everyone "idiots" for listening to the rumours.

However, most people that claimed Gerrard was going nowhere all along were relying on blind faith alone and had no inside track on the story.

Gerrard's admission that he considered leaving shows that JohnBull was very close to the money, but thankfully wrong.
