I thought riise did horribly in defence! Kazim Richards did well against him, and you see mascherano helping riise out.

Our debutant did really well! good tackler and was part for the 4th goal which gerrard scored.

Fowler frustrated me at times, but he did wonderfully well creating the 4th goal and other opportunities.. glad to see him score 2 penalty goals

Kuyt did well, his link up with gerrard is wonderful!

What is it with Riise? Seriously, I love the lad's goals to bits but he's been woeful this year.

I don't know mate, he scores wonderful goals and I also like him...but defencively he hasn't been good.

I would rather see him play on the left mid, I reckon he can produce a better performance in that position

It maybe off the field problems have caught up with Riise a bit. He wasn't married for long before they hit problems and maybe its played a part?

Saw the attendance figures at LFC.tv and it said 33,000. Almost fell out of me chair.

Went on PL.com and it says 44,000 plus.

Didn't catch all of the game, but from what I did see, I was massively impressed with Agger again. He's so composed it's untrue. I balked at the £5.8m price we paid for him, but this season he's looks like he's worth 3 or 4 times that.

Would have loved to have seen Fowler get a hat-trick, but what was good was to see him still getting involved right up to the final whistle - if injuries do hit, he looks well capable of stepping up for a run of 90 minute appearances. Some neat interplay and great awareness from him once again.

Mascherano looks the part straight away, and after being a bit worried about the starting 11 we put out, it was an absolute canter. When you think about what everyone was talking about last weekend, it's been an absolutely brilliant week for the club. :)

Good win for us today. A few positives to take from today.

Before we got the penalty today I didn't think we were playing the best and I think we showed them too much respect. We should have been at them from the first minute IMO but we started off quite slowly. The football we were playing at that stage was not good, it was more or less thumping the ball up the crouch (which is what we seem to do when he plays) and that is no good IMO. The only way to make crouch effective is to get the ball down the wings and cross it in and then he can do the rest. I think this was the aim with playing both Gonzalez and Pennant but we were not supplying the ball to the wingers and it ended up with is just being thumped up to crough by the defenders.

I think the penalty got us going. Expertly took by Fowler. The second one was just as good. From then on we were in cruise control really.

When Kuyt came on for crouch (anyone got any news on his injury?) we played better football and this showed especially in the second half. Gerrard broke from midfield more and the wingers were getting more of the ball.

Gerrards goal was pure class. Lovely little ball from Fowler to Gerrard on the outside and he just tucked it away in the bottom corner of the net. A shame fowler himself couldn't get a third goal but he did have the opportunities but just couldn't get the ball under control at times.

On Mascherano, he didn't do too badly. When he gave the ball away, you could see he had the right idea. I think today we saw glimpses of what he's capable of. There's certainly more to come. Sure he's not got the passing ability of alonso but not many have. He put himself about and put a few good tackles in. He plays very deep and defensive and very much sits infront of the defense. Although there was one point in the second half where he got the ball on the break and ran about 25 yards forward but the move broke down. He looked a bit lightweight at times but I think he can get used to that. It's a bit early to judge yet but once he gets a few games under his belt he'll be good I think.

3 points, job done.

Rafael Benitez has revealed that Peter Crouch was forced to leave the field against Sheffield United because the striker had broken his nose.
Crouch sustained the injury when he jumped for a ball from the corner and was caught by a high boot and had to be replaced by Dirk Kuyt.

"Crouch has a broken nose and needed stitches but it's not serious," said Benitez.

"He is okay and I was talking to him after the game."

"Sadly a dark side stains Cristiano Ronaldo's game," wrote Gerrard in his autobiography.

Hypocrite.

Gerrard and Fowler were laughing about it just before the second half kicked off. Gerrard made the bent nose gesture  :D  Bit cruel really but all part and parcel of being a footballer.
