Luis Aragones: "Everton are a massive club"

Speaking following Mikel Arteta's latest exclusion from the Spanish squad set to face England in tonight’s friendly at Old Trafford, Spanish manager Luis Aragones gave the Everton man encouragement over his international future, as well as a few home truths which Rafa Benitez should take note of.

Aragones: “I think what will be good for Mikel, for Everton and for Spain is for him to keep playing in the same form that he is at the moment, I have been watching his progress from over in Spain and I know that he is doing well. His form has been very good.

“But Mikel is slightly unfortunate. He is in a very difficult position as there are so many good central midfielders battling for a place"

“That means it will be very tough for him, so he must keep improving. I think he knows this,” he added. “But he is at a good club. Everton are a big club, a massive club. There is no doubt about that. They have won lots of titles.

“I have a good friend in Spain who is an Everton fan and he is always telling me about them. Liverpool is a proud football city but whenever it comes to a choice in my affections, I choose Everton"

So, Luis - how come you pick ALL our first team Spanish contingent for your squads (Luis, Xabi, Pepe), yet always overlook your bum-bandit boyfriend Arteta?

Hmmm....

Methinks some bitter has edited that page.  :nod  :D

Just to cheer everyone up, thought I'd post some of the things Shanks once said:

“When I've got nothing better to do, I look down the league table to see how Everton are getting along.”

“This city has two great teams - Liverpool and Liverpool reserves.”

“If Everton were playing down the bottom of my garden, I'd draw the curtains.”

and one that is quite fitting to the latest Mersey derby:

“We murdered them 0-0!”

I fail to imagine the controversy nowadays if someone came out with anything like this!

Apparently Tesco's have pulled out of the Everton deal and Lidl are now taking over.

A spokesman for Tesco said "They have always been a Lidl club"

woof woof ! wrote:I did laugh at the discomfort it caused our bitter cousins but I tend to agree with Big Niall on this one . It was the kind of comment you'd expect from a Chelsea manager not Liverpool FC .

C'mon guys are we always meant to be a club that watches our P's & Q's for the sake of others while other clubs especially always have a dig at how much we spend on this and that and that they're above us (Moyes) but don't like it when they're firmly beneath us. Which IMO is where they'll stay too!
Rafa's right smaller clubs do come to Anfield now and try to shut up shop, just as that smaller club Everton did last week. Only trouble was, was they succeeded where others failed.
