I tend to think they are like Stotland fans.

They never qualify for the big tournaments and only get their entertainment by supporting whoever we are playing.

Except we win tournaments, unlike England....

as a result, Evertonians end up like Scottish fans with rabies.

In the times today:

The imminent takeover of Liverpool by two American tycoons is a sign of changing times in English football, but for 90 minutes at Anfield today, parochial concerns will hold sway over thoughts of globalisation.
With a white-hot atmosphere guaranteed for the derby match against Everton, emotions will run high on the pitch as well as off it, leaving Rafael Benítez with the difficult job of reminding his players — not least Steven Gerrard — to play with their heads as well as their hearts.

Everton may have got the blues on their past two visits to Anfield, but it is Liverpool’s players who have seen red. Gerrard was sent off for two bookings inside the first 17 minutes of the derby at Anfield last March and, 12 months earlier, an horrific challenge on Alan Stubbs by Milan Baros soured Benítez’s first taste of victory in a fixture that the Spaniard would prefer his team to approach as they would any other.

“In the derby, the only thing different is to remind the players that it is only another game,” the Liverpool manager said. “If we do the right things, we will win. It’s important to play with your heart and your head, but in this kind of game maybe it’s important to use a little bit more of the brain.”

Asked whether he meant Gerrard, Benítez smiled and said: “You know what it is like with a derby. I don’t need to talk about which players.”

An aggressive tackler in his youth, Gerrard has become a more controlled player and, remarkably, has not been booked in 39 appearances for Liverpool since his sending-off last March. But derby day at Anfield, with the Kop in full voice, occasionally brings out a different beast; not only has this fixture brought two of the five red cards in his career, but it was also notable for a two-footed lunge on Gary Naysmith in December 2002 that resulted in a three-match ban.

The stakes may be raised for Gerrard and his team-mates by memories of a 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park in September, but Benítez is adamant that there will be no repeat of that today. “It will be a different kind of game,” he said. “We are playing well, we have confidence and we will be in front of the best supporters in the world.”

It will be the first congregation of those Liverpool supporters since George Gillett Jr and Tom Hicks, the respective owners of the Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars ice hockey franchises, replaced Dubai International Capital as Liverpool’s prospective owners. With the American duo expected to outline their plans for a £180 million takeover at a press conference on Monday, Rick Parry, the chief executive, confirmed yesterday that “while we have always had a good relationship with George Gillett, the involvement of Tom Hicks adds another dimension and considerable strength to the bid and was a significant factor in us looking afresh at the proposals”.

Those proposals should become clearer on Monday, but until then revenge is all that matters for Liverpool, while Everton want a repeat act. Considering that September’s victory prompted the release of a commemorative DVD by Everton, Benítez might have had them in mind when he said that “smaller clubs think they just have to win one game like this and they are happy” but while bragging rights may be crucial to many of their supporters, David Moyes said that there were no such thoughts among his players.

“I’ve not shown the players the video of the game in September,” the manager said. “In my eyes, it’s gone, so we want to do it again.”

Love that bolded bit - they should never be allowed to forget they brought out a DVD of ONE derby league game.
Desparation.

Just listening to the 1985-6 season tape (Radio City)
(Molby - if you lose, er, if you miss you're a villiyan!)

Tremendous times - quite a good FA Cup Final as well as I recall.

Cant believe this!.

A post on RAWK:

"EVERTON MIDFIELDER ARTETA TELLS THE S*N NEWSPAPER HE HASN'T MET ANYONE IN THE CITY OF LIVERPOOL WHO SUPPORTS LIVERPOOL FC.

Just been reported on SKY SPORTS NEWS that Everton midfielder Mikael Arteta in an interview with "THE S*N" (edition, Saturday 3 February 2007), yeah, that sad excuse for a newspaper, that in the two years he has been at Goodison he is "yet to meet anyone who supports Liverpool Football Club".

What a sad individual he really is and also the fact he gave the interview to someone from that rag of a so-called newspaper ,says I believe everything about the man.
I wonder where he was when almost a million people were out on the streets of Liverpool when we brought home the Champions League after the miracle of Istanbul. "
