Hamann was quite clearly a vital cog in Houlliers machine and im convinced that now under Benitez he will be moving on! Thats not to say that Didi's time at Liverpool was nothing because he was 1 of the most important players during Gerrard's time at the helm! To judge him still when he is playing in the weakest ever Germany side i have witnessed is very unfair! When Didi peaked it was a joy to have such a strong midfielder breaking up attacks and letting the others go about their game! He would still make a great squad player but maybe wants to return home then retire?

One of our chief problem last season was the lack of pace in our defence. So you don't see the need to reinforce that department then?

Our main priority this off-season should be:
1) keeping StevieG
2) get a pacy centre defender
3) creative midfield
4) right winger
...in that order.

Hamann has been a good player, simple yet effective. Keep him, useful for squad rotation.

I think that there are a few in the first team squad who just don't have the engines to keep Benitez happy. The first team fitness is not what it should be and the recent games against Valencia were embarassing.
There are a few players who were blowing for tugs in the first half last season and he will not put up with that.

In my opinion, there is no one better than Didi playing in that position. When he's injured we really miss him, no matter who else we put there. He's a consistent performer, and he's got my 100% backing.

The real question is whether Rafael wants the team to play with a defensive midfielder in that way. If he doesn't, he won't be buying a replacement for Didi, so it's a redundant question.

That is a championship challenging team for sure.
we need to be laying some serious cash out for some top players, like the chelsea and Utd's of this world.

for a start you best replace Stevie G in your midfield cos he aint gonna be here!!! Secondly 15 million for Owen?? Surely he is worth more than that!

Hey JBG I can see your point of view about signing fantasy players but if SG did go with the money we have and Benitez as manager we might be able to compete for some of the players mentioned. There are some who we wont get but if SG did leave the pressure would be on to get a world class midfielder to replace.

Why not Ballack? money and Didi plus the chance to play in the premiership we are still in the champions league even if by the skin of our teeth.
