Liverpool vs arsenal - Carling cup qtr final

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby destro » Tue Jan 09, 2007 11:23 pm

Ive phoned in sick im so shell shocked ! What pluses if any can we take from this game ?

At least rafa now knows that our "squad" just isnt strong enough. He should be drawing up a list of players other clubs will be gullible enough to take of our hands ! Because if he didnt know before tonight he sure as hell knows now

Dudek let me down big time, ive deffended him in the past and wouldnt blame him for all 6 tonight. But we know hes on his way anyway. thanks for istanbul

Paletta doesnt look like he can cope with the physical side of the english game, and hes going to face stronger forwards than Aliadiere, he also looked very slow to react to any kind of danger, maybe hes not use to the system due to his lack of games but for me after tonight ive seen enough

Gracia ? The best thing he did all night was get injured if only to get carra on ( but even this match was out of his control ) garcia lovers can try and claim he set robbie up, but anyone watching could see he mis-hit his shot

Robbie gave his all as you would expect, but his lack of pace cost him a couple of shooting chances ( great improvisation for the goal )

Peltier and Guthrie have shown enough glimpses to be given time to develop ( maybe league cup games, next season obviously ! )

Stevie was  not his usual self but was still one of our best performers, great finish

Alonso = to little to late
Carra   = see above

Sami his lack of pace becomes more and more apparent ( not that he was ever lightning quick  :D  )

Bellamy im still not convinced about him and really cant see why "people" called for him to replace crouch in recent games, yes he has pace and can finish NO he hasnt grasped how to stay onside !! cisse anyone ?

Aurelio seemed to show more of an attacking option than riise has done lately, fairly good distribution of the ball. still not sure about him though

Finally we come to rafa, he took a gamble tonight and it didnt pay off....but to call for him to resign or to be sacked is complete bollox ( talk about knee jerk ! ). Hes becoming a victim of his own sucess ( not that we as fans shouldnt expect at least one trophy a season) but we still have a chance at some minor european one

Give the guy a chance ffs !

So hes made a few eyebrow raising team selections, hes not going to please all of the people all of the time. hopefully the board dont share the views of a mindless minority

Give him time to spend what money is going to be available and to go for the players he "really" wants and not their cheaper alternatives

This guy is no mug ( even if he does frustrate the life out of us sometimes ). Poor managers do not win La Liga, UEFA Cups,Champions league,European super cup,and FA Cups

Yes we are out of 2 cups and humiliated in the process and i am as just as gutted as the rest of you but its not the end of the world, theres no need to go burning your istanbul memorobilia

Alex ferguson was an FA cup match against forest away from being given the boot, and look what happened there

Come on guys, 2 poor home games and suddenly we shouldn't have Rafa as a manager? Rafa has far exceeded the likes of Mourinho in the EPL, and hopefully he will continue to do so with Liverpool for years to come.

I personally feel that the takeover can't come a moment too soon, let's get some more real quality into this site and mount a proper title race for next season.

6 fu.cking 3.  Cannot believe that.

A bad performance is a bad performance and sometimes when things aren't going your way it's just bad fu.cking luck, but 2 things really rritated me tonight.

1.  Dudek.  At fault for the first 3 goals, which lets face it, basically lost us the game.  Fair enough Warnock played the boy on for their first, but Reina would have read that and been off his line to deal with that through ball.  The corner Dudek flapped, enough said.  The the free-kick, why the fu.ck does Dudek do a star jump just as Baptista is about to hit it, therefore making it impossible to dive for the ball in time.

And don't give me any of that 'but he saved a pen' sh.ite.  So what, the game was already lost.  And I'll hear none of the 'he's not played much' or 'his confidence is low' excuses.  Almunia has had a similar season to Dudek in terms of first team opportunities, but instead of sh.itting himself when he got his chance, Almunia earned his fu.cking wages tonight.

2.  Benitez.  After looking more than dodgy against Arsenal on Saturday, why the fu.ck was Dudek selected tonight?  In that 1-3 reverse at the weekend all 3 goals conceded were stoppable from a keeper's point of view, especially Henry's which I guarantee you I'd have saved myself FFS.  Letting in all 3 was unacceptable.  Surely Reina should have played tonight, what the fu.ck does a keeper need rested for anyway??  All Benitez has done is convince every club considering taking Dudek off our hands to put their wallets away.

On a final note I'm not just blaming Dudek and Benitez for tonight, but I guarantee we'd not have lost 6 goals with Reina in goals tonight and Benitez knows it too.  Poor performance all round and people like Paletta and Hyypia also need to take a look at themselves after tonight.  Onward and upward, let's concentrate on Watford now...

weringo wrote:[As I said before, Rafa picked a similar team to Arsenal in terms of experiance. We had 3 regular players (Hyypia, Gerrard and Bellamy) and Arsenal had Fabregas, Toure and Baptista and both teams had a mix of youth players and 2nd string players. It was a freak result.

Why am I the only one defending Rafa?

It sounds to me like both managers had a pact on playing a similar string of players.

Also Chapions League qualification and a good run in the competition itself is clearly the priority for Benitez. What tonbight has proven is that there is still a fair bit of rebuliding to do out side the first 11-13.

This is a terrible result, which hurts a great deal, and lets face it Rafa will get form everyone, but and empahsise this, he will need to face the truths and then with the team move on. He is still the man to lead us to glory, but the qulity of players needed to get us this remains a tsk he will have to address hugely in the summer.

Benitez is the man for Liverpool of that I don't doubt, but also people are right to question his selection and judgement after such a debacle.

Spot on. Its only the fact that we will have some money in the summer for Rafa to seriosuly rebuild that im not completley distraught tonight.

I just hope we make 4th place.
