Crouch to stay or go ?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Crouch cost us £7m from a non-Premiership side. He's done nothing but improve since he came here.

Andy Johnson cost Everton £8.6m, and Dean Ashton cost West Ham cost £7.25m. Crouch is ahead of both of these guys in the international pecking order, is a proven goalscorer in European competition, and has a work ethic that's second to none.

For me, anything below £15m doesn't even get to the "I'll put it to Rafa" stage. You can call it silly money, but strikers that perform at the highest level are a rarity and cost accordingly. His stock has risen dramatically since we signed him, and I just can't entertain the notion that Rafa would accept £12m for him, regardless of who he's apparently lined up.

Peter Crouch has been one of the best players in a Liverpool shirt over the last 18 months.

Yes, I wish he was faster. Yes, I wish he was better with his head. Yes, I wish he scored more goals.

In terms of what he brings to the team though, I think Rafa would be demented to let him go for anything less than a crazy offer. And £12m vastly undervalues him as far as I'm concerned.

We need four quality strikers. We have three, and an out of condition Robbie Fowler, who would be the fourth if he could get more games behind him. Peter Crouch has been an inspired signing, and he'll keep getting better over the next couple of years. Look how much he's developed since he's been here. 95% of this forum were stunned when we signed him, and he's won all but a handful over with his work ethic, his ability on the ball and what he brings to our attacking play.

He's not figured much recently because Rafa is rightly letting Kuyt and Bellamy find their way in the team together. When things sag a little though, Crouch will come in and get a run of him own, and all of this absolute h*rseshit will all be forgotten about.

Don't confuse what Glenn Roeder wants with what Glenn Roeder gets. He's going nowhere. He'll be leading the line for years to come.

hahahaha ! 12 million undervalues Crouch...VASTLY...hahaha !
take a reality pill mate !

if crouch is undervalued at 12 million... how much do the likes of Kaka, C.Ronaldo, Torres and Messi cost...
not to mention others like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Henry who cost more because of their commercial value and all !

Crouch is a nothing when compared to the big names in the world ! 12 million is a big amount of money... premiership or not ! i think that Crouch is a player valued at more or less 5 million... any bid higher than that is one we should consider.

With new investment coming in by summer, i expect us to improve on the quality of our squad... replacing Crouch by a better forward can only be good for liverpool !

P.S: crouch is one of my fav. players ... just dont like it wen ppl start talking fantasy on this forum

Glad that you're not in charge of our finances. Why would you consider selling a player for a lower amount of what you paid for him?

If we forked out 7 million for Crouch we shouldn't consider any bids less than that as that would mean losing money. We have made him into an English international who has a decent goalscoring record.

well... you wanna live in your little world of delusion where crouch is valued ... ugh... my bad.... undervalued at 12 million pounds its your pick...
for me, he's a good player at best and one we could easily replace if we have the proper funding .

many many many players who are miles and miles better than crouch will ever be are available and would cost less than 12 million ! what the fak are you lot saying !

I'm assuming you know how to read.

1. When and where did I say that Crouch was worth 12 million pounds? Please point that out to me.
2. Where and when did I say that Crouch was UNDERVALUED at 12 million?

Go read the post again dipshit.

What I did say and what I am saying now is that:

1. Crouch should be sold for more than 7 million pounds [the price we payed] in order to gain a net profit.

2. He's won a couple of medals, has more caps than most English strikers in the Premiership, has a decent scoring record for his country and a decent goal record overall.

3. He's worth more now than what we paid for him as he's improved as a player since his arrival. Football is a business and this is strictly business. I don't give a flying feck what he is really worth. The fact of the matter is that we payed 14 million pounds for Djibril Cisse. We bought Diouf for 10 million pounds and Crouch has contributed more than either one of them. You do the math

4. Once again I'm not saying that he's worth 12 million, but WE SHOULD if we are thinking of selling him, sell him at a price higher than 7 million [that would include anything from 7.1 million pounds and up]

There's a lot of clubs in the Premiership who are stupid enough to pay 7-10 million for Crouch. We should aim to make profit not lose money.

You haven't a clue, have you?

Strikers don't cost you games, they win you games. We leaked a goal we shouldn't have, and Friedel had a good day. Yes, Crouch could've filled his boots, but it doesn't always work that way.

For Man U, Rooney, Ronaldo, Saha, Giggs and Scholes have all missed utter sitters this season. By your logic, are they :censored: and want selling as well?

Crouch is still our top scorer this season, I remind you, and he's been far from ever-present.

Incidentally (from lfc.tv)...

RAFA: WE'RE NOT INTERESTED IN DAVID VILLA
Paul Eaton 29 December 2006

Rafael Benitez has today quashed speculation that Liverpool are planning a transfer swoop for Valencia striker David Villa.

It has been reported this week that Benitez will try to land the Spanish striker during the January transfer window, and that he'll allow Peter Crouch to leave the club to generate the necessary transfer funds.

But the Liverpool manager has today insisted both stories are untrue and has declared he has no interest in bringing Villa to Anfield.

He said: "I have seen the stories in the press saying that we need to sell Crouch to raise the money to sign Villa. I can tell you now we are not interested in Villa.

"I think he is a fantastic player but at this moment we are not thinking about signing him and that means we are not thinking about selling Crouch."

I cant believe the witch hunt over Crouch since the Blackburn game, I was not very happy when he joined I have to be honest.
He won me over though in the end, he is not any Liverpools fans idea of a striker, he is a good footballer though with his feet he was always poor at headers, even before he came here.
He has gone from being our No1 striker to No3 he probably got a bit big headed with all that England Malarchy but it wasnt his fault, he just proved  those who laughed and booed wrong.

He has had his nose well pushed out at Liverpool now with the arrival of Bellamy and Kuyt, he is probably really hurt about it, must have been a dream come true last season signing for us starting nearly every game only this season part time sub.

At least he wants to play though and not just sit on the bench for a big fat wad of cash.
He is a really decent fella ok he is no world class footballer but he certainly does not deserve to be called names by any of us he doesnt deserve it.

The only people saying he's unhappy on the bench are people on the internet.

He's a good professional, and will do a job when called for. If he hadn't scored all season I could understand all this horsesh*t, but he has, he'll score many more, and all the naysayers should go play their Pro Evo and find someone else to berate.

Bizarre thread this is turning out to be.

Sit on the bench ??!! For what he's paid I'm sure he'd be happy to sit on top of a christmas tree.

No player with an once of common sense is going to screw up a career at LFC with the wages these lads are on simply because he's not playing every week.

Come on guys, separate Roy of the Rovers from reality.

Crouch I think knows he is a "speciality" player. He's never going to be automatic first choice every match. He's the kind of player who you bring on later in the match to cause problems for the defence. Either way, we win. If he stays, we keep a player who quite honestly has delivered since we bought him. If he goes, we can make a good profit on what we paid for him. I think we should buy Huntelaar from Ajax.

Kuyt, Bellamy, Huntelaar and Crouch.

That's a good strike force.

He cost us that game against blackburn the other day, we should have been two nil up at least by half time, but no!! cuz crouch cant put the ball in the net. Anyone who argues otherwise let me ask you this- considering that he has started in most of the big games (chelsea, man utd, arsenal etc..) since his arrival, how many of them games has he actually put in a performance in- NONE!!!!!-its like playing with ten men. He hugs the touchline like hes thierry fuc*ing henry, well ive got news for you he aint, and when he does actually get his slow :censored: in the box he aint no use anyway. If anyone thinks were gonna win anything with that freak then they are dillusional, Crouch good enough for LFC- NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think Crouch has ever been anywhere near the touchline mate.

Stop talking out of your a*sehole.

Crouch is a good player, who happens to be very tall. It's not his height that makes him the player he is - he'd probably actually be BETTER if he were shorter.

All the focus is on his heading, which I admit I pull to pieces because it's very poor for a striker of his height. (But just because you're tall, it doesn't mean you will naturally be a good header of the ball - it doesn't work like that.) It's about anticipation, and reading the flight of the ball - something the short-a*se Robbie Fowler is World Class at.

People need to remember one fact: Some things can be taught, but timing isn't one of them.

Huntelaar is overrated. I've heard the same from Ajax supporters as well.
