Do we really need - More players?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

All this excitement about the new takeover has gone to a lot of fans heads..Its understandable,of course.
More money for the club can only be a good thing.Im sure we all trust LFC enough to know they will not jump into anything that is not totally 100% benificial in every sense to the club.

Its exciting in a lot of ways what lies ahead. The primary topic on every fans lips is what players we are gonna sign!
People are expecting Villa,Ronaldhinio,Kaka all the big superstar names if not in January, definately at season end!

I dont think this what we need...not in January and not even at the end of the season!Hear me out.
Rick Parry has talked about a long term financial strategy that will make LFC secure for the next 100 years!

The reason we are playing catch up and were at this time last season is simple we start the season poorly!

Why do we start poorly?
The answer is simple!

Too many new players not used to our style of play or the LFC way have taken time to find their feet...hence a poor dip in form for the whole team!

Look at us now the team have gelled and are scoring for fun,we are on a par with the top two and i fully expect us to finish the rest of the season taking as many points as both Chelsea and UTD.

So i dont really see the point in bringing in any new faces this season.Personally i feel that will only rock the boat and it will be Deja vu...of the previous 2 seasons. We will be sh.it for the first 8 weeks or so then come good, this will never win us the EPL!
I think we should sit tight with what we have for the rest of the season and the season ahead!
We dont need to let all this money thats coming burn a hole in our pockets.
We should give it a year then see who we need to say goodbye to and who we want and more importantly NEED to welcome aboard!

Just my thoughts...maybe im wrong..What do you lot think?

Its worth a try I guess, look at Man U, only one new player (Carrick) and they had a storming start to the season. Its the most logical reason Ive heard to why we've been so poor at the start of this season and last

I'd just like us to bring in some cover for right-back in case of injury to Finnan. We can play Carra there and have Agger partner Hyypia, but's it's not ideal.

I'd like to see a lot more time given to our newer acquisitions before we start tossing around Champ Manager transfer strategies. Most of them have already started to come good.

I think that Rafa has a good idea of who he would like to sign.  It may just be a case of whether or not these players become availble in January.
Lucas Neill is the obvious choice for cover at RB and his contract situation suggests that he will leave in January.  Rafa may buy a defensive midfielder if one comes available on the cheap as we lack cover at the moment.

You just never know with the likes of Upson too, he has been linked on a few occasions now and he has refused to sign a new contract meaning that he will probably be available in Jan.  Just a case of whether or not Rafa wants him IMO.

I dont think we will be trying to sign Alves in January.  Mainly because the investment situation hasnt been concluded but also because Sevilla are doing very well in La Liga, think they have just overtaken Barca at the top.  His valuation will be at its highest at the moment, Rafa will probably try again in the summer.

I do think we need a new LB but we need to give Aurelio a chance to prove himself and the rest of the season should allow him to do that, given the opportunity.

In summary, i dont think there will be much action from us in the transfer market.  More concentration on areas that need cover IMO, not areas that need strengthening if you know what i mean.

Apatr from the right back situation im in total agreement with barry, we dont need more players, for one thing getting kewel and momo back from injuries will be like 2 new players...

Finnan needs some back up, but apart from that, i think we're good as we are

I think the reason Rafa is set to sign O'Neil during the January transfer window is because Sami Hyypia will be joining Newcastle for about £2million. He's 33 years old & we'd be making a bomb on a player who this season hasn't looked that up for it. As for the right side I'd think we're going to strengthen.

I think people are getting a bit carried away because we have won a few games now. The reality is we have yet to beat a top five club this season home or away, and we have allowed some poor teams to get a draw against us.

To compete with and beat the Mancs and Chelsea we need another top class player. I'm not talking about strengthening the squad, I mean someone who will improve the first team and be an automatic first choice.

If as expected we sign Neill after Christmas, I would then go for one of the worlds top players in the summer. If we are going to win the EPL we need another top class player (World class if possible).

Agreed we dont need any new players, we have enough talent on the pitch as it is. The current squad are still blending and starting to pull out terrific performances, so if its not broke dont fix it.

I do completely agree with what you have said saint and we do need to buy some top players. I mentioned in another thread that we need four or five top signings to compete with the top two. Like you though, i dont think these signings will be made in the Jan transfer window.

It seems very hard to buy top players in the Jan transfer window as players are still involved in a lot of competitions and more often than not they are cup-tied. This coupled with the fact that we havent completed investment means that Rafa will probably only be looking for cover (Neill) for this season, unless someone becomes available.

Good post Bazz....I agree that new signings at this stage, if signed to make an immediate difference and to challenge even for 2nd place, is not a wise move......Leave it til' the summer. BUT, bank the money NOW, let it accumulate interest and who knows ? Maybe there'd be another £1-2 M in interest alone, and we could buy a couple of younger lads to bring through.....Jeez, I sound like an accountant, but I swear I'm not.

we need better players....simple as that.
dont think we'll be getting any in the jan. window .. most of the players u'd think we want to sign are either tied at europe or impossible to sign because their clubs wouldnt sell with so little time to find replacements.
End of season... id like to see some big names in Liverpool FC... next season... we start the season winning games.... with the new signings.... and i dont mean lucas neil and jermaine pennant... i mean big names...

you talk about big names coming in, but do we really want to become like real madrid and chelsea and man utd? liverpool is unique, and i'd like to see us bring in world-class up and coming players. if there are too many stars in a squad things can become difficult. i also have the feeling rafa is not the type to buy big name players like kaka (even tho id love to see him in the famous red shirt). its an interesting theory, not buying any1 so that we can get off to a flyer. but i think we will need to sign and get rid of a few players in the summer. id like to see us bring in a player like toni, huntelaar or even a cheeky bid for trezeguet. i would love to see us bringing in players like vincent kompany, rafael van der vaart and nuri sahin...and if we do have the money, a player like giovanni dos santos( doubt barca would ever let him go after wat happened with fabregas though)
