He's a good player and anyone who thinks otherwise is a complete and utter muppet.

Thats a very optimistic response there stu  :D

Yeh but I agree with you, Riise a good player, a good lad and long serving player for Liverpool.

I wasn't too impressed with some of Riise's defending yesterday and against Galatasaray the other week his tackling was again poor and led to one of their goals. However all players have off days and I still think the lad is the best option we have at LB currently. As SAINT said he always gives his all and then some and that is all you can ask from the players. From what I saw earlier in the season I'll take Riise over Aurelio everyday of the week.

i've been hearing some of you guys slate riise, this just isn't on. the guy is a great defender. since rafa has come in, he has improved his defence game heaps, and his attacking game speaks for itself...i think lfc are lucky to have a left back like him! i wouldn't swap him for any other left back in the world!!! maybe bar heinze, pity he plays 4 such a sh*t team..

I have defended Riise so much arguing with the likes of Murph and Leon, but to be fair to them at the moment the lads playing probably the worst football of his time here.
He is getting torn to shreds by virtually every right winger, is poor in posession and is getting caught out of position far too often.
I only hope its a confidence and form thing, cos otherwise he will not be round much longer.
At the moment he is an accident waiting to happen.

Well said. I really do appreciate what he's contributed to this club over the past five years but he's been poor this season.

His mistakes a lone have led us to conceding goals. More often and not he has a tendency the exposes one of the centerbacks who then have to pick up the pieces for him.[which is mostly Hyypia and then he gets blamed for it]

just on the left back situation, i'd be surprised if we're not keeping tabs on young gareth bale at southampton. like walcott before him, i can't see southampton holding on to him much longer.

manure don't need him. chelsea wouldn't ever play him. arsenal rearely sign young british players. which leaves errrr... us. :D

can just see chelsea blowing everyone else out of the water with a ridiculous bid down the line just to stop anyone else signing him.

ahem.... riise is the best left back in the world ?!
no offense monkey but....wat the fak mate ?!

not many left backs who are available at the moment...all the big names are tied to big clubs... but i think at the moment.. the best left back we have a chance of signing is P.Lahm (bayern hav financial problems & he has been linked with chelsea yet and again)
othter options:

emanuelson (ajax)
A.Lopez (a.madrid)
adriano (sevilla)

I think we need to cut Riise some slack.  He has been under-performing lately but he is normally one of our most consistant players which is why he is very rarely on the bench.  He has given a lot to this club and is probably one of the first poeple on Rafas teamsheet most of the time. I dont think it is fair for people to jump on his back as soon as he plays a few average games.  He got injured on the first game of the season and i remember saying on a few occasions how we really missed him when he was out.  Lets get behind the guy aye!

lucas neil is not going to be much better than riise is imo.
he might be our only option for that position however in the january window..
Come summer, if we have enough transfer funds, i expect rafa to find a replacement for riise in that left back slot... neil will be decent cover for finnan (who has a couple of good seasons in him imo)..
riise at the moment is playing some poor football and yesterdays game against watford was good enough proof. The left flank was left exposed yet and again when he went forward... and when he did,he wasnt very involved and looked clueless while on the ball.. i kept a good eye on him because i thought he'd underperform.
hope he improves and finds some kind of form sometime soon... one of my fav. players in the world but if he keeps playing the way he has been this season... him being replaced in the first team is just a matter of time
