Which is better?

LW - Xabi - Momo - SG       or

LW - Xabi - SG - Pennant

I said last season, if you look at the fact that Xabi, Momo and SG are undroppable than
3-5-2 (or 4-5-1) could be our "natural" formation.

i dont agree with the 451, we ussually end up looking short up front. i think kuyt and bellamy are a good partnership. i wouldnt like to go back to hoofing it to crouch while he has no support

If you watch us closely when we play 4 4 2 we switch to the 3 5 2 during the games.  If the left back goes forward the right back will tuck in and vice versa when the right back goes forward.

Aye, but if you are playing 3-5-2 from the start then you'd start with 3 CB's

so would you play carra, sami and agger, with riise and finnan in midfield, or would you play pennant and gonzalez?

Defo Riise as Left Wing back and (probably) Finnan - I think we could do with buying a quality RM/ right wingback; Finnan turns 31 this season

fact we are winning so why change! sissoko is a brilliant player, however if it means putting gerrard on the right forget it! it is evident in the last few games gerrard has played to his true form, he is playing in the posistion he loves & knows he is most effective in. look at todays game he commanded our play when he had to defend, then when he had to change the pattern of play and attack charlton to kill the game off gerrard was there, dictating the play, charging foward leading the team & capped it off with a fecking brilliant goal, would this of happened if sissoko was playing -i don"t know, but at the moment it isn"t broken so why fix it - keep gerrard in the middle for me.

If Gerrard plays CM instead of Sissoko vs Barca, we will get ripped to shreds.
Stevie lacks the discipline required in that role against the top teams.

My personal preference for the hard matches is:

                                    Reina

                   JC               Sami          Agger

Finnan                                                                     Riise
                                     Xabi
               Gerrard                              Momo

                             Bellamy
                                           Kuyt.

That is one solid team.

lando, your comment is exactly the point i am talking about, why move our best player from his best position to suit the oposition, surely by doing that we are weakening ourselves.

let them worry about gerrard instead of doing them a favour and moving him where he is less effective

While useful as a defensive cover, Momo is no Makelele and we should not sacrifice Gerrard in his best position against Barca, especially at the Nou Camp. If Momo were Makelele, I'd put him in the centre to sniff out Barca's threats early and ask Gerrard to play starting from the right and allow him to drift in like he did so successfully last season.

We have to play Gerrard in his best position against Barca and try to look for goals in the first leg. otherwise, we'll be surrendering too much to Barca and by the end if they get a 2 goal cushion in the first leg, it'd be curtains for us.

In other EPL matches, we may be able to schuffle the pack a bit depending on the opposition, but then surely the way we have played recently suggests that Gerrard should be left to play in his best position...move him around when he is really on form where his versatality can come to the fore as his form hits top gear.

I'd play 3-5-2 with Carra Sami and Agger, 2 wing backs, Gerrard Alonso and Momo in midfield and whoever up front.

Oh how we miss our right wing maestro Antonio Nunez

When we play Barca, we will need Stevie and Momo. Barca has way too much creative and attacking talent not to use Momo to break them down.

With that being the case, the only way to have Stevie, Momo and Alonso in the same line up is for Steve to play on the right, or an even more advanced role instead of one of our strikers.

The other option is 3-5-2 , which I dare say Barca would rip us to shreads if we use that.

Good point & post Peewee

Four goals in six games

Steven Gerrard

Does exactly what it says on the tin, if you you play him in the middle.
