You'll never walk alone - Ex-pacemakers drummer dies

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Just seen this very sad news - Fred Marsden, brother of singer Gerry and drummer on dozens of songs including You'll Never Walk Alone and Ferry Cross The Mersey - died earlier this week.

What is it about this year and drummers?

Listen to YNWA again, and you'll hear some great stuff from him as the song reaches a crescendo. A real unsung hero in the background of some of the best-loved tunes to come out of the 60s.

RIP Fred.

From BBC...

Pacemakers drummer dies, aged 66

Fred Marsden, drummer in the 1960s Merseybeat group Gerry and The Pacemakers has died, aged 66.

The Pacemakers were contemporaries of The Beatles, and shared Brian Epstein as their manager.

Led by Fred's brother, Gerry, the band were best known for the hits You'll Never Walk Alone, I Like It and Ferry Cross the Mersey.

Marsden died of cancer in Southport on Saturday according to a family notice in the Liverpool Echo newspaper.

He is survived by his wife Margaret and two children.

A funeral is planned for Friday at Our Lady's Church in Formby, England.

Sad news esspecialy this time of year.
A true liverpool legend and not likely to be forgotten.
Thoughts and sympathy with the family, some concilation in that his work will always be remembered and sung by the reds.
