I agree with your comments on society, but as far as I am aware Heroin was never a big thing in the 60's or 70's. I certainly never knowingly met anyone who took it. It was the middle 80's before heroin really started to take off at least to my knowledge.

It was huge in the 1930's.

heroin use increased – from about five kilograms per million people in 1951, when it was legal, to 350 kilograms per million people in 1998/1999.

In the 1923 it was made illegal in the united states and production plummeted fron 9000 kgs to 1000 kgs

Today production is steady at about 4400 tonnes. Looks to me like its become more of a problem!

Civil liberties are fine as long as their don't impact the way a society runs.

This article on the impact of drugs in society is a good argument why dangerous recreation drugs should be banned regardless of "individual rights".

Civil liberties have been taken too far with the human rights act

no?  five minutes of him droning on is enough to make anybody suicidal... besides i thought it'd be fitting to include his mug in the thread for the edification of all you lot who 'sympathise' with his musings...and who in some shape or other feel 'uplifted and liberated' by such dreary dross of the direst dimensions.... :rasp   complete and utter tripe!  mind you, i myself go about with a face like a wet weekend in wigan...so its very easy to jump to conclusions isnt it?   Really im a fun loving free spirit with a joyful, bubbly persona that quite evidently is made clear by my philosophy on life.....
its sh1t basically.....and the last thing i want to hear is somebody telling me how wonderful it 'isnt' in song!  I can go around any streetcorner round here for that. Or any alehouse to find likeminded 'Half-glass empty' folk regurgatating their individual tales of woe and angst....'Says nothing to me about my life' ?  Thats maybe the whole point - it says too much!  then again, there's always McFly i suppose......or if you're really up for a meaningless half hour of 'air-headed' bliss- try Girls aloud...  Hell, id even put Andersson/Ulvaeus' work ahead of anything this drudgemeister and his ''cohort"  has penned - and they too used to make poignant 'observations' about life...which usually were found leaning towards the vagaries and meanderings of failed relationships et al.  :sleep.   The only element of merit that i'll concede, over the (cough)success of Morrissey throughout what seems like an 'epoch'  full of his...'commentary' is, in the sole fact that he has, as youve correctly stated...'flogged' 'em like hotcakes. Which is balanced out,it would seem by the sale of over 35million prescribed SSRI's worldwide as a result   :D  surely there has to be a connection there....Hector?

Spot on, Morphine a type of heroin is used in medical care, it's the same with Cannabis.

Without being pedantic - Heroin is actually a type of Morphine, medical name being diamorphine.

thats not pedantic at all ;)

People can be good or bad, regardless of what drugs they take/games they play/movies they watch.

If one thing doesnt trigger them, something else will.

And we only know how much drugs people take now because people didnt do the same research back in the day.

Im not saying to go out and get wasted, but if thats your thing, and it makes u happy, and u can afford it, why teh frick not do it!

To be fair if you have the money you tend to get away with anything. Look a Pete "grubby nails" Doherty, if he weren't famous he'd be locked up by now.

You could have used an image of a nice girl smoking, instead of a picture of me!
