BARCELONA 1-2 LIVERPOOL - ALL REACTION HERE......

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby red37 » Thu Dec 07, 2006 2:38 am

The first knockout stage draws for this season's UEFA Champions League will be held in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday 15 December 12:00 cet

the business end of the competition starts from now. And expectation is mounting as to who Liverpool will draw. Teams from the same country cannot be paired together in this stage, which is of little relevance given the 4 english sides all topped their respective groups. Here is the final list of Group winners through, listed along with their prospective opponents. As you know, the teams Liverpool can draw are chosen from the second tier highlighted in bold. With home advantage (for group winners) in the second-leg of Knockout phase 1.  Here is the make-up of the last 16. No real surprises with regards to the original Group configuration and the two entrants who qualified;  maybe with the possible exception of Celtic. Certainly no easy games left from here on in.  Ties to be played   20/21 FEB. and 6/7 MARCH

CHELSEA   BAYERN   LIVERPOOL   VALENCIA   LYON   MAN.UTD   ARSENAL   AC MILAN

BARCELONA   INTERNAZIONALE   PSV EINDHOVEN   AS ROMA   REAL MADRID   CELTIC   PORTO   LILLE

there are no easy fixtures here

alot of people will be hoping for lille porto or celtic

but for me the champions league knockout stages should be mouth watering ties against the best europe has to offer.

i would love us to draw real madrid, we have played roma and barcelona in recent history and inter would be boring like all italian teams ( i know people will bring up istanbul)

so bring on madrid

The usual cliche applies: there are no soft touches in that pot.  Much will depend on our form between now and the end of February.  If we're flying, we can beat any team on our day.  If we're struggling, we could find ourselves turfed out with barely a whimper, like last season.  While I wouldn't say no to playing Lille, Porto or Celtic, I fancy our chances most against either of the Italian sides: Inter or Roma.  I'd prefer to avoid the Spanish sides at this stage, to be honest.

Yeh I reckon we'd do Real, a team who is well organised and has enough quality can comfortably account for them as Lyon have showed.

I think Celtic would be a very very tough draw, they'd be right up for it and their support at home is outstanding, they really took it to Man Utd. Lille or Porto are ties I think we'd have little problems with, but other than that they are all mighty tough. That being said we CAN beat anyone.

My personal preference is Bayern as I'm going to be in Germany in February and I'd love to see us stuff the Bavarians so I can give it to a mate of mine who's a big Bayern fan. :D

Looking at the draw this could possibly be the most competitive champions knock out for years. Aside from PSV Eindhoven, Lille & Celtic the rest could of easily topped their group.

Liverpool could face any of the following:

Barcelona, Celtic, Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, Porto, Lille.

Would obviously be nice if we were to avoid Barca, Madrid and Inter but at the same time i do like the thought of a mouth watering tie against the spanish giants.

I would like us to face Barca. Granted it will be tough but we can beat them. That will prove our critics wrong.  :pirate

Inter aint boring.  They been fantastic this season.

There isnt really an easy tie.  Remember last season being pleased with drawing Benfica and look what happened.  I dont want Barca or Real.  We all know about Barca and Real are so much stronger this season.

I think whoever finished 2nd should be hoping for Milan or Valenica.  Both those clubs are in crisis.  What is happenig at Milan is beyond belief.  How Ancoletti is still in the job I dont know?

I would hope for Roma in the first stages. They are playing well, but I think it would be a great stage which we could win and build confidence from there.

Difficult tie.  They have been very impressive this season.  Scoring goals for fun as well.  But winnable.

I would rather have them, than playing in spain at the moment. I think Porto would be a tough team to beat also.
