were not good enough for the league though

we are honestly 5 players away from title contenders i believe

the gaps we need to fill

RB.........finnan is good enough for a team like spurs or something
LB.........riise when he isnt scoring great goals doesnt add enough going forward
RW........stevie g is better in the central, pennant aint up to it
LW......kewell to injury prone, gonzalez not settled yet
STR.....crouch, has scored goals this season but overall isnt mobile enough to score vital goals

Its more than that, its attitude....are the likes of evra, o shea, fletcher, carrick, any better and Utd go out and beat the likes of portsmouth no bother....I mean even Evra and O Shea both scored against everton tonight...
player for player id take Liverpools squad every time but its about having a winning mentality, LFC dont seem to have that at the moment

Okay, Dawson asked for positives so here goes:

1) Defence was rock solid again although Portsmouth barely threatened.  (Did they have a shot on goal all game?)

2) Kuyt worked his socks off as usual and set up a few moves with his never say die tracking back.

3) Guthrie looked decent on the ball down the right, when he came on.

4) Stevie had another strong game through the middle.

5) Agger was solid on the ball, although he tried to force a few too many passes into the clogged area at the edge of the box.

6) Fowler got a run out.  Too bad he couldn't get many touches to work his magic.

As usual, it was the midfield that killed us.  Portsmouth were content to clog things up in the middle and Benjani was game at tracking back and harrying, so Carra and Stevie had very little time on the ball.  This meant that the wing play needed to be sharp.  Well, guess what?  It wasn't.  Pennant and Garcia both at their frustrating worst: wasteful in possession, sloppy with their distribution and rash in the tackle when the inevitably lost the ball.  They provided the strikers with next to no service and they were poor outlets for Stevie and Carra.  Were it not for Agger driving forward from defense, Carra and Stevie would have been completely overrun.  Let's hope Alonso's fit on Saturday and that Rafa gives both Pennant and Garcia a clip about the ears and a kick up the backside.  Bellamy needs a run-out, too--the strikers are looking more than a little jaded.

Sign her up for us, at least her rabbit teeth might scare the opposition which is more than our wingers are doing at the moment.

Fact is, we ain't gonna challenge this season now unless the top two go into freefall......... It's gonna be a 6 horse race for the 2 Champs League spots.
If we can strengthen by 2 players in January then there's no reason why we can't be right up there. The cups are still to be had too, and there isn't a better cup side in the country!

Pennant is the ultimate poo. I think Fowler needs to play a start a few games, I would have started him tonight, were playing very simlar to the way we were at the begging of last season, solid at the back but failing to break teams down.

I'd rather win the league than the Champions league, but saying that if the leagues not on offer I'll happily take the Champions League.  :D

What's with all the slang? I'm having trouble understanding it, not to mention the bad spelling and poor use of grammar and people wonder why I don't vote Labour.

Can’t the mods ban this nautical nonsense?  (I’m aware it makes no sense)

You know what I have a weird feeling we might just knick the champions league again this year, will we still get into it next year even if we finish 7th in the league though?? ;-)

exactly!!!! CL and FA cup again would be nice!

The league would be better.

Something is wrong, no doubt.  Another game with no real flair, creativity or guile.

Most leagues are 'overrated' if you by the races at the top of the table. I agree we shouldn't be anywhere near third place, but we are so get over it. You're acting like we lost, we got a point, and I know it's not great, but it could have been worse. Most of the time you're posts are decent, but every so often you plunge into a world of darkness when there is no need.
