Zenden's gone too

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

From LFC.TV

Rafael Benitez today confirmed Liverpool will be without Dutch midfielder Bolo Zenden for five weeks.
Zenden will undergo an operation tomorrow after damaging the medial ligaments in his knee.

This latest injury setback couldn't have come at a worse time for Benitez, who now has Steven Gerrard as his only fit central midfielder available for tomorrow night's clash with Portsmouth.

"It's a big blow for us to lose Bolo," admitted the manager. "He is a big help to all the players here because he mixes very well.

"Steven Gerrard is now our only fit central midfielder and so there's no debate about where he's going to play tomorrow.

"We have a number of options when deciding who can play alongside him. Jamie Carragher can play there, Sami Hyypia can play there because he has a lot of agility and very good stamina and I've also been talking to Daniel Agger who told me he used to play as a holding midfielder. We'll decide tomorrow.

"It's a blow to have so many injuries but we have the players who can cope with it and who can come in and do a good job.

I think we'll see Agger there.  I remember Rafa saying he could play in defensive midfield when we signed him

I have a contact who described the scene when he did his knee and I can now relay that information to the forum in a pictorial form:

Agree with Rushie#9... the words Sh!T, creek and paddle definitely looms large right now.....

Been away from home too long..... anyone seen how the kids are doing? anyone of them ready to step up?.... Peltier, Anderson for example.

Somewhere else in this forum was mentioning about why Liverpool don't seem to have good youngsters. Fabregas was mentioned as getting his opportunity to shine when Viera was out injured. This would seem a good time for one of our youngsters to come in and sieze the opportunity. If Rafa cannot even see any youngster capable of coming in now, then I guess they never will.
