LIVERPOOL VS PORTSMOUTH - A chance to catch up

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I don't think we should have a problem rolling them over. I reckon the goals will start flowing now.

I'd be more concerned with keeping them out, Lau-Lau in particular. He has a habit of sneaking a goal against us and making the last couple of minutes a nervy affair. Anyone know if he's playing on Wed?

Portsmouth's preferred strike partnership is Benjani and Kanu. Personally I am worried about Kanu as he can be a tricky customer. He has a bag full of suprises and more often than not can hurt teams when they least expect him to do anything. Thats the problem with him though. When you expect Kanu to score then he totally messes up   :D

Bellamy won't be at Anfield, he'll be in Cardiff at court.

And Zenden won't be playing, he'll be on the physio's table.

Not having much luck in the injury department, are we?

In light of our most recent addition to the crock-list, I'd go with this team:

                                       Reina

        Finnan            JC                    Sami            Agger/Riise

                        Gerrard                Riise/Agger
Pennant                                                                 Garcia

                           Fowler
                                            Kuyt.

It's GOT to be time for Robbie to get a game, SURELY!?!

Thinking about it, Rafa may go with this lineup instead:

                                     Reina

Finnan                JC                        Sami                    Agger

            Pennant             Gerrard                 Riise

                                     Garcia

                      Fowler                     Kuyt.

Bit more direct.

I preferred your first selection mate. Your second attempt looks too weak in midfield to crush a grape never mind pompey. I would go with :-

                            Reina
Finnan      Hyypia          Paletta       Agger

Garcia      Gerrard        Carra            Riise

                    Fowler    Kuyt

thing wrong with my team is a distinct lack of pace

I was imagining that Riise, Gerrard and Pennant would play as a central 3, rather than leaving Gerrard alone.

Then Pennant could bomb on, Gerrard shift right, and he and Riise would be a central 2 when we're in the ascendancy.

That's the plan, at least! :D

I think it's amazing that Pompey are still capable of operating a football club, considering that the whole town was buried by a volcano.

I remember being at the same fixture last season. Hamann smashed that 30 volley into the top corner, even back then they gave us a game. If we win i'm not expecting nothing more than a 1-0 or 2-1.

I think we can get past this mini-crisis by playing the three centre-backs again.

                   Reina

     Carragher     Hyypia     Agger

Pennant     Gerrard      Garcia     Riise

         Kuyt     Crouch     Fowler

or play 4-3-3

                      Reina

Finnan     Carragher     Agger     Riise

     Pennant    Gerrard      Garcia

         Kuyt     Crouch     Fowler

With the latest set back, i would line up like this:

                      Reina

Finnan      Hyppia       Agger      Riise

Pennant     Gerrard     JC       Garcia

                Kuyt    Crouch/Fowler

thats what i'd go for, either that or swap Carra and Agger round... depending on how training goes and who feels more comfortable in that role.

personally i would keep the 442 and not revert to either of the 2 teams in SouthCoastShankly's post above (no offence SouthCoast, just my opinion) as they both make gerrard sit back infront of the back back 4 and not go forward.
