I have to be honest, I went to see Miss Saigon at the Liverpool Empire with an ex-girlfriend.  She hadn't fucking shut up about it for months, really though, months.  I thought it was going to be something life changing the way she described it.

I was bored from start to finish and couldn't wait for it to end I recall as Liverpool had won that day against Bolton 1-0 with an Igor Biscan header and I wanted to get home for Match Of The Day.

Bored me to tears.  Not my cup of tea my friends at all.

Went to see something called Slappers & Slapheads at the Empire again though the night Greece beat France at Euro 2004 before thet Miss Saigon b*ll*c*ks and I proper enjoyed that cause it made me laugh.

I've been the theatre for the odd panto and stand-up show not really what you'd consider luvvie cultured stuff, but I did go to see GREASE at the Empire a few years ago. I'm not a big fan of the movie but I've gotta admit it was a decent outing and as long as I know Iv'e got some kind of interest in the show then I'm all game.
I went to see Mel Brookes' THE PRODUCERS (the movie version) last year and I really want to see the stage show but 'til now couldn't be arsed going down sarf to see it but I might just venture into manc land to see it when it begins it's tour there. With Peter Kay playing a really camp theatre director in it the laughs have to be guaranteed.

P.S
I never pictured you as the luvvie type LANDO, maybe a bit of a poofter if some of the others on here are to be believed but deffo not a luvvie type!!  :rasp

Ive been a few times. I wouldn't exactly call me a "Luvvie", though! :D

Right - Mikz - you are absolutely correct about Les Mis. First time I saw it, I actually said to my gf - "That is the best thing I have ever seen".

Saw it again yesterday afternoon, and it's even f*cking better. It was the complete version, whereas the initial viewing was the condensed one.

Absolutely brilliant, engrossing, and sublime. I cried like a baby girl. And I don't care.

Phantom - boring. The only bits that didn't have me nodding off were those involving the Phantom himself. It's just too reliant on visual effects and flash-bombs.
The ending is good, but to be honest the songs just do not compare to Les Mis, and nor does the storyline. For me, it's just a typical Andrew Lloyd-Webber offering - bland.

The lass who played Christine was amazingly good, though, and the Phantom was top-drawer.
Kind of ironic that the current Jean Valjean in Les Mis is played by John Owen-Jones - the longest running Phantom in history with over 1400 performances. (More for the benefit of Mikz, as I know a few of you are uncultured apes. :D)

(While I'm on the note of the cast, John Lee from S Club 7 was playing Marius last night, and I have to say he is a very talented lad. Not as good as the previous Marius, but never-the-less, still a cultured performer who obviously used S Club as a stepping-stone.)

Red37 - trust me - go to watch Les Mis. If you think Phantom Of The Opera is good, wait until you see that. It is LIGHTYEARS ahead of everything else in terms of quality. The story isn't what you'd call uplifting, but the sheer class is everywhere.

Honestly - it is the biggest musical of all time for a reason, and if it weren't for the bad press by numbskulls who go expecting to laugh for 3 hours, it would have double the amount of audiences.

Les Miserables - The Masterpiece.  :bowdown  :bowdown  :bowdown
