Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

You can't just blame "day trippers" for the bad atmosphere, there are plenty of OTT Liverpool supporters who stand up and sing until their throat is dry. There are many local fans that do nothing, but slag off the team from the stands, refuse to stand up and contribute to the atmosphere, it's a wide problem and can't be blamed on one section of the fan base.

It is sad state of affairs to me the Spion Kop lost a lot of its heart when seats were placed on the terrace. However that's not really an excuse when you look at what the fans did in Istanbul.

I think with a lot of modern day, younger fans, as well as a proportion of older fans do not have the same passion for the club that our fathers and grandfathers had for the club, modern fans do not take pride in our club, it's ashame, because no matter what happens to us, true supporters stick by the club through thick and thin, you have to take the rough with the smooth, otherwise what's the point of supporting a club? Another thing is, LFC.tv should stick old matches on the site, so younger fans can watch players like Alan Kennedy playing, so they can watch Bill Shankly's speeches and interviews etc, we must do more to educate the next generation and future generations of Liverpool fans the traditions that make our club so special otherwise, we'll lose that for good and I don't want to be ordinary, I love Liverpool because we are the best club in England and one of the most accomplished teams in the world. Our team in the 70's would have flattened the Brazil team of the same era, we should embrace the club, not hide it away because we haven't won the league in almost seventeen years.

At PSV we have the east of the stadium that is mostly making the noise, but its not maximum during league games. The reason for this is that they are not exciting enough, sounds odd but in champions league matches the atmosphere is way better.

Anyway on the TV I still heard a friggin lot of noise of L'pool fans so dont be so negative about yourself :D

If any supporters wants to check how the PSV-fans entertained themselves here are some sites you might want to check for pictures/etc.

Enjoy yourselves :)

Good game lads you deserved to win. Too bad about the injuries on our midfield (Cocu, Aisatti, Vayrynen, Culina) because we now had to play with Feher who usually struggles to make the 2nd squad.

Gerrard was great yesterday, we looked kinda solid until that moment but bang there was Gerrard. Can happen to every team, that's just individual class of both him and Kuyt.

What do you guys think about the performance of Kromkamp? I was really suprised to see him play very well at Anfield, it looked like he felt free at last. I think he's picking up his top form he made when he played for AZ. Because that's the form we want him to have.

Salcido also played pretty good, same goes for Da Costa. Afellay played pretty bad, but let's say i'll forgive. Koné and Farfán didn't had their best nights too.

Gerrard played wonderful, but Garcia played very bad. Same goes for Pennant. Kuyt did a very good job and Crouch also played good. I thought Crouch played even better then Kuyt. Riise didn't do enough with the space we gave him, couldn't make himself really dangerous. Both Agger but especially Carragher did a very good job.

Cheers and good luck in the 2nd round!

A great result and a good performance, you could see why PSV hadnt lost for seventeen games defensively they were very organised. In saying that though they offered very little going forward. At times our passing was a pleasure to watch and for me Finnan and Crouch had excellent games, Gerrard also had a very good game.
Up until we scored I couldnt really see where the goal was going to come from, both Kuyt and Crouch are very similar in the fact that there both "workman" like. I couldnt see either of them carving out a goal scoring opportunity for me each of them would be better off playing alongside a "poacher" most of there good work is done outside the box. But for an hour or so it wasnt happening for us in the final third and there wasnt much threat down either flank from either Pennant or Garcia.

But this is why I think with Gerrard in the center we pose much more of a threat in the middle going forward, as I said when playing Kuyt & Crouch up top who for me dont seem clinical or poacher-ess ???  enough at times to really threaten teams, in certain games. Thats when you need a player exactly like Gerrard bursting into the box, when Gerrards playing well theres nobody better in the world who can make the runs he does. Thats what he's best at, his tackling was back and he looked the part in there bossing the midfield. And Lando, he was very disciplined last night after the first goal he sat, not enough people on here give him the credit or say he isnt disciplined ....... he is, he can be.

Zenden also had a good game too and was lively, buzzing around the middle of the park. I have said before that he's not the best midfielder to ever grace the turf of Anfield but he does work and if he can carry on with performances like that through out the season we cant really complain, well done Bolo.
After the well worked first goal, this brought PSV out a little more which helped the likes of Kuyt, Crouch and Garcia to exploit the gaps and it paid off with a cross in from the left to Kuyt, who nodded it back accross goal for Crouchy to score one of the easiest chances he'll ever get.

A confidence booster it must have been, now lets take it into the domestic campaign boys, well in  :buttrock

im still dying to see the day where Crouchy rises up majestically to meet a sublime delivery, full-on, well directed and with such power...the net ripples in aftershocks.
it is by fortune rather than intent, that because he is so far up above everyone else, most of his headed efforts end up 'finding' their way into the goal, rather than emphatically being told thats where they're going.  But fair play to the lad for being positionally aware in the first place anyway (the hallmark of any striker)..... for me though i think he could benefit from a program of 'neck' muscle strengthening exercises. Aerially his game is weaker all round, which seems ludicrous on the face of it. I reckon if he overcame that deficit, he'd be absolutely phenomenal.

He did come close in the first half with the effort you described, when it left his head I was expecting the net to ripple, but it just missed instead.

yes he was unlucky with that fine attempt. more of it i say..if he can learn to 'attack' the ball with more 'contempt' im sure it would pay added dividend to his game. then again, you need regular, accurate delivery of those kind of balls throughout the whole 90 minutes. Thats still another aspect im anticipating with ignorant relish yet....

He'd never be a great header of the ball, rising powerfully and majesttically like Alan Shearer to deliver a killer header and fending off challenging defenders, despite his height.

true, although you'd perhaps ignorantly expect he could well adapt  into becoming one....given the fact it could be used as a weapon of some significance. Then again, a lot is taken for granted when summing up expectations of  footballers in general it seems.  I mean, who would have expected Pennant to be as hesitant in beating his man......
