yes and No, why Zenden instead of Riise, also what the f has happened to Aurelio he looked alright on the left wing at the start of the season. But please can someone tell me why you are all picking Reina over Dudek, I don't get it. I think Dudek has been treated attrociously by Rafa, its a disgrace that he doesn't get a game when Reina is in such poor form.

warnock 'defends' better than Riise. (btw this has nothing to do with his vociferous assessments in the press). zenden has it in his make-up to operate both centrally and left side, and is the best of what remains for fit midfielders. Bellamy works the channels well, hence his inclusion on the left of a front three.
but what the f**k do i know  :p  its just another contribution to the overall debate.

Boro arent doing too good but our away record is utter sh1t so who knows. Hopefully Gerrard moves in the centre with xabi ,luis on the left pennant on the right. Back 4 picks itself and Kuyt and Bells upfront.

2-0 liverpool Kuyt,Gerrard

Manhattan offers these words of encouragement to LFC:

Guys. You play Middlesbrough this weekend. Now, some things need to be established before this match begins. First you will be wearing an all yellow kit with red adidas stripes. Don't be scared. Manhattan assures you, you are still playing for LFC and the people in yellow kits are your teammates. You can pass the ball to them and try to kick it into the net while preventing the other team, who will be playing in red and advertising an online casino on their shirts, from scoring.

Secondly, you will be playing in a different stadium to the one commonly known as "Anfield". Again, don't be scared. True, half of the seats will be empty and the stadium is oddly imbalanced in appearance due to budget limitations, but don't worry. Just pretend that it's Anfield and try to score more goals than the opposition. You'll also see a man on the touchline near Rafa who looks rat-like in appearance and who's greatest moment of fame came when he passed the ball apparently to a German goalkeeper in a vital semi-final penalty shootout and then did a pizza advert. Don't be alarmed that's just Gareth Southgate.

Cheers.

the usual pre match summaries of recent encounters between the clubs:

MIDDLESBROUGH V LIVERPOOL: THE LAST FIVE
Jimmy Rice 16 November 2006

The Reds go in search of their first away win of the league campaign at the Riverside, a venue which has hardly been kind to them in recent years. Liverpoolfc.tv looks back at our last five visits…

Middlesbrough 0-0 Liverpool

Premiership – August 2005

Steven Gerrard already had seven goals to his name by the opening day of the new Premiership season, and he would have made it 10 had luck not deserted him at the Riverside. The skipper was clean through in a non-event of a first-half, only to be taken out by Ugo Ehiogu (the 'Boro defender seeing red for his troubles). Gerrard was denied thrice more in a punchier second-half - but he wasn't the only midfielder to catch the eye. Momo Sissoko looked more than a match for seasoned workhorses Ray Parlour and George Boateng on his league debut.

Middlesbrough 2-0 Liverpool

Premiership – November 2004

Liverpool arrived at the Riverside looking a little toothless, with Luis Garcia and Harry Kewell leading the line in the absence of injured duo Milan Baros and Djibril Cisse. Not easy, then, for manager Rafael Benitez to bite his tongue when a Garcia strike was ruled out by the linesman despite the ball coming off Chris Riggott en route to the Spaniard. Still, there could be no excuses for the schoolboy marking which gifted Riggott the opener, nor the sloppy ballwork from Xabi Alonso which led to Bolo Zenden putting the game beyond doubt 25 minutes from time. The one saving grace was the return of Steven Gerrard after a seven-week lay off with a foot injury.

Middlesbrough 0-0 Liverpool

Premiership – November 2003

The much-billed return from injury of Michael Owen was enough to prompt the rarest of sights at the Riverside – a full house. The hoards would have been better staying at home to savour England's early morning triumph in the Rugby Union World Cup. A tired Owen was withdrawn midway through the second-half having been starved of service. His replacement Florent Sinama-Pongolle could have made a sensational entrance had he not volleyed over from six-yards when it looked easier to score. Diouf also came close with a header which hit the bar.

Middlesbrough 1-0 Liverpool

Premiership – November 2002

Liverpool's unbeaten domestic run came to an end thanks to a controversial goal eight minutes from time. Jerzy Dudek spilt the ball in a crowded penalty area and Southgate slotted home into an unguarded net. The visitors claimed their man was fouled but referee Mark Halsey pointed to the centre circle after consulting his assistant. The result set in motion a wretched run of two months without a league win which ultimately cost Gerard Houllier's side a place in the top four.

Middlesbrough 1-2 Liverpool

Premiership – March 2002

Goals from Emile Heskey and John Arne Riise fired Liverpool back to the top of the Premiership with two months remaining. Bruno opened the scoring after good work from Anelka and Hamann, then turned provider for Riise on 82 minutes. A late consolation from Gareth Southgate set off the jitters as the final whistle loomed, but the Reds managed to hold out.

**********************************************

not the most inspiring accounts of what usually end up as anything but entertaining affairs. so be prepared to put your money on a classic!)  in all conceivable truth, this really has to be nothing less than a win, for both an important 3 points and a much anticipated vital boost for not only the teams morale but the whole club in general could do with some long overdue positive news away from home for a once. heres hoping that both the points and a decent performance arrive down by the Riverside on Saturday.

(Steve Finnan is on course for his 100th club appearance on saturday)

I dont know but I would play fowler at the moment......up front with kuyt, bellamy is well off form and id use crouch as an impact sub.
I reckon robbie will get goals if we create chances..... (despite a perceived lack of pace with robbie, we cant buy a goal away from home and robbie is one of those players with the knack of being at the right place at the right time, I reckon hes worth a shot ....)

I would like to see fowler play a lot more, every game i have seen him play, he has shown great movement and superb touch - which brings the midfield into play a lot better.  He is the best thinker we have in the squad and could dig us out of this away form 'hole' that we are suffering.

I'd also give Bell's a go on the right - he is the most direct player we have in the squad (poss bar Gonzo) and in an away game, counter attacking football, pace and space on the break is there for the taking.  Same goes for Riise, lets encourage him to make a few runs and have a go from 35 yards, your never know, a rebound or two later could fall to our goal mouth prowler, robbie fowler.

I'd therefor go with;

Reina

Finnan
Carra
Agger
Warnock

Bellamy
Gerrard
Alonso
Riise

Kuyt
Fowler

What do you guys recon?

Bad Bob wrote:I fancy our chances in this one.  We've struggled at Boro in the past but, as St. Mick says, they are a truly p!ss-poor side.  Besides, the lads usually respond in the right way after an embarassing defeat (e.g. against Villa following the OT debacle).  I'd like a nice 3-0 win with Bellamy and Gerrard on the score sheet.

Boro are a dangerous side, how can anyone call them 'a joke' or 'piss poor just flies over my head. Boro are deeply inconsistent, which is one of their more dangerous qualities (if you can call it a quality :D ). They on their day can pose quite a challenge and as Chelsea have noticed can cause major upsets. It's also worth mentioning we have gone four years without winning at the Riverside Stadium. Not a bad record for a team who is 'piss poor'.
