Play Gerrard in the middle with Alonso, put Pennant on the wing. Garcia on the left with Crouch and Kuyt up front. Bellamy's performance last night must of made Rafas mind up regarding Sunday.

                       Reina

Finnan     Carragher     Agger     Riise

Pennant     Gerrard     Alonso     Garcia

                 Crouch     Kuyt

Subs: Dudek, Bellamy, Fowler, Warnock, Zenden

I have not given Zenden any praise on these boards but think your comments about him being anonymous second half are baffling, it was Zenden who stormed down the left and cut it back for Bellamy to miskick from a few yards out.
It was also Zenden who played Bellamy in on the right with a clever reverse pass.
He bossed the midfield (ok it was a poor Birmingham side) but he was one of, if not our best performer last night.
I am shocking myself here but due to Sissoko's injury and Pennants inability so far to get involved in any games, i would start Zenden in the centre with Alonso and play Gerrard on the right, i would play Warnock left back and have Riise left midfield to add a bit of stability.
Arsenals poor-ish form at home is because most sides go there sticking every man behind the ball. We wont do that and on there day they can open up any side, so we need to be very wary and play at a high tempo like we do at home.
I would play Agger, as Hyypia and Carragher have had so many nightmares against Henry, when he runs at us.
Crouch and Kuyt should definately start.

                  Reina

Finnan  Carragher  Agger  Warnock

Gerrard  Alonso    Zenden  Riise

             Crouch   Kuyt

We can do them over lads, lets not fear Arsenal, they aren't that great, one man team, maybe a two man team if you count Fabregas. All we need is to win the midfield battle, supply Crouch and Kuyt with necessary service and watch Lehmann flap in all his glory as the redmen march victorious and glorious, because we are the greatest team the world has ever seen!

Gerrard the Lion is like a caged beast waiting in the willows to score that vital goal, Kuyt is like lassy always reliable and will get the job done. Garcia is like magician, a wizard, who has the ball within his feet and the suddenly it's in the back of the net...goal!

Reina, Finnan, Hyypia, Carragher, Riise, Pennant, Gerrard, Alonso, Garcia, Kuyt and Crouch!

For me this is the best team but I would have Aurellio instead of Warnock as he is is a lot more skillful.

I think that Pennant will have a good game and show us why we bought him. I would like to see Agger always start and Carra and Sami fight for the other place. Stevie has his chance to play in the middle now and his confidence has been given a boost.

Liverpool 2 - 0 and Pennant scores his first goal.

We will have to pretend we are Bolton for 90 mins on sunday  :Oo: If we are to get anything out of this game.
They dont like to be ruffed up, so we have to get at them from the start, not let them get settled and get their passing game into flow otherwise it will be a long sunday.
If the bitters can get a draw at the Emirates surely to god we can win.
We have to win cause come sunday afternoon the table will look pretty grim for us.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Pretend we're Bolton? we can't just change our playing style like that and especially to mimic Big Sam's lads.... Confidence is up right now (which, you have to admit, it wasn't before Old Trafford) so there's no reason why we can't play our own game and get a result.... It's an intriguing one and I, for one, can't wait for it.............!!!

Aurelio does have that added flair but there are two reasons why I wouldn't start him.

1) With Eboue, who is lightning quick, running at you LB you have to be confident in some defensive ability. The games Aurelio has played he has been undone too easily by attacks down the right. Riise on the other hand is solid.

2) Riise is a proven goalscorer and is by far the better choice when you want both a solid defender and an attacking force from the back. He may lack a little skill but he makes up for it in clinical finishing.

When looking at Starting XI for sunday, we should be looking were Arsenal weaknesses are and we know they like 2 play through middle so we should use the width and are wingers available as a advantage, Pennant and gonzales will have a field day with the space the arsenal midfield leave behind, as they are so narrow.

Pennant vs Clichy/Gallas interesting battle both pacey, but defensively is Clichy good enough, i don't fink so, if they place gallas there which i think they will pennant will have to attack more

Gonzales vs Eboue will be a much more difficult contest both again pacey but the difference is eboue leaves alot of space behind when going forward which we must utilise with gonzales. You seen how well he played last night tracking back and forward just need to see more of that from him.

Starting XI
           Reina
Finnan Carra Hyypia Riise
Pennant Gerrard Xabi Gonzo
           Crouch Kuyt

I don't support playing Bolo in this one, because I think we will need to capitalize on our true strength in the center of the park, namely Stevie and Xabi.  We will need some wingers to fly around on the outside of the midfield, and utilize our strong defenders to negate their competent wing play.

I would play:

Reina

Finnan        Carra      Agger       Riise

Garcia/Pennant       Gerrard    Xabi      Gonzales

               Kuyt       Crouch

This line up will allow us to force our style rather than play to Arsenal's.  I think we need to control the ball extensively for us to take the three points, so maybe Sammi would be a better choice, but Arsenal has pace for days, and Agger may be the likely choice.

After seeing Pennant jog around the pitch last night, the trixster/ball waster may be a better fit.  I have read in the thread that there are hopes the Pennant would step up and have a cracker because of the circumstances of his departure at Arsenal, but I would of liked to see that from him against Birmingham, his old club.  His performance showed none of that, so Luis is my guy for the right.

First thing's first, I'd play Garcia in this game from the start - 2 goals in 2 league games against Arsenal last year, he has a good record against them.  I just hope we play our own game in this one and try to impose ourselves, instead of shi.tting ourselves and playing a five man midfield to try and contain them.

I'd also let Carra sit this one out, as I've said in another thread Henry tortures him every time.  Doesn't matter how well Carra is playing, he always struggles against Arsenal.

Id go with:

                           Reina

Finnan       Agger        Hyypia         Riise

Pennant    Gerrard      Alonso         Garcia

              Crouch       Kuyt

With Toure and Gallas at the back - probably the quickest central defence pairing in the league, I'd go for the physical approach with Crouch and Kuyt.

I still have a bad feeling it will be Garcia playing off Kuyt in a 442/451 type formation with possibly Riise and Aurelio playing on our left, but if we do that I think we'll lose, simple as that.  We need to get stuck in and be physical with them, it's the only way we'll beat them on their own patch imo because their passing game puts ours to shame this season.  This is still a very winnable game though, as long as Benitez doesn't fanny around with the team selection.

Agree with you about carra, remember that goal Henry scored against us where he went past Hamann and then sidestepped Carragher way too easily, I dont think JC deals with the speed Arsenal play at very well

I don't umderstand where you've got this idea of Hyypia being slow? How come no ones ever complained about "slow Hyypia" before? The guys a freeking genius in defence and we're going to need the Hyper Hyypia for sure!
