Another 48 hours - No not the eddie murphy film

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Wed Jun 09, 2004 9:15 am

Rafael Benitez is poised to enter talks with Liverpool about the vacant manager's job within the next 48 hours, according to his agent.
Manuel Garcia Quilon, who represents Benitez, insisted no negotiations had so far taken place with Liverpool.

But he told BBC Sport that there would be developments "in the next few days".

Benitez, 44, is serving a notice period after quitting Valencia on 1 June and is favourite to take over at Anfield following Gerard Houllier's sacking.

Benitez has already been replaced at Valencia, by the former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri.

Other European clubs are reportedly interested in the sought-after Spaniard, who won the Primera Liga title and Uefa Cup with Valencia this season.

But Benitez, who rejected the offer of a two-year deal at the Spanish club, is believed to want to test himself in the Premiership.

Liverpool had been waiting for chief executive Rick Parry to return from holiday to finalise details concerning the appointment of a new manager.

Now that Parry is back on Merseyside, the club are expected to make an announcement shortly on who will replace Houllier.

Benitez is also said to have the backing of Liverpool striker Michael Owen, who has long admired the Spaniard's style of play.

"another 48 hours" cost about £100m and was rubbish. Surely that should be about our last manager not our next one

I wish the club or Benitez or someone would just say something cos this thing really has to be sorted before the Euro Championships start to give the manager some kind of opportunity to have a look atalayers and to insruct the LFC scouts what to keep an eye out for. Even besides all that, this waitning is doing my nut at this stage

Make no mistake about it, the deal is done and dusted.

Would LFC dispose of a manager without  another lined up?

Would Benitez quit his job without another lined up?

Valencia have a fourteen day period in which if Benitez signs for another club then they will claim compensation from that club. Think about it.

Hopefully LFC will send NO scouts to Euro 2004. If you want a good player watch him week in and week out for his club. Don't buy another Diouf who ripped France apart in one game or Porborsky (who evans tried to sign but Manu got him) on the back of one good goal.
